Turn signals quit

Wow had this car two days and the turn signals and hazard flasher stopped working. I checked the hazard and turn signal fuses and both are good. I bought a manual on the car and a flasher unit and made like a pretzel installing the new flasher and nothing zip no fix sad very sad. I need to look closer at the schematic but I think the hazard switch is independent from the turn signal switch so this is wierd to have neither left, right or hazard. Any ideas is greatly appreciated. I don't want to have to pull the wheel without being certain there isn't something simple elsewhere. The car does have 124K on it so the signal switch has had a lot of actuations. If I do have to pull the wheel I'm wondering if I should change the key switch while I've got it open but I'm not familiar with these fancy passive security keys. Do you have to have the computer reprogrammed for the new keys resistance?

I think I'm going to have to change the multifunction switch. The radio has something called Theftlock or at least I think it's just the radio. The manual says to disable Theftlock before disconnecting the neg terminal of the battery but it doesn't tell you how. I've got to buy some factory manuals asap.

I would like to change the keyswitch while I've got it open. I'll need to study the passive security key before plowing into that.

I've never worked on a car with an airbag. The manual says remove the fuse and disconnect the neg terminal of the battery. Is that all I need to do? How about a football helmet and kevlar vest:wink:

Having worked with explosive detonators in the past I was wondering if static is a risk while working on airbags and I found some links that say yes. One guy says he wears a ground strap but he ties himself to his homes ground. I'm thinking you should tie yourself to the cars ground which is the airbags reference. The cars isolated on tires and knows nothing about your house ground. I also know from working on electronics just touching ground doesn't work so I'm going to strap myself to the cars ground while removing the bag. Thoughts?

Last question and sorry for the serial posts but I've got to fix this tomorrow. This car has tilt steering and does it matter with respect to taking the wheel off and changing the switch? One link seemed to say you have to mess around removing pivot pins with a special tool. My manual doesn't mention pivot pins in reference to the switch change out.
