I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.0 and it shuts off like it isn't getting any fuel. It also stalls alot at a dead start. It idles fine for about five minutes then goes dead. I found out that it doesn't have a fuel filter but it does have have a mesh filter on the fuel pump in the fuel tank. I changed the mesh filter and I'm still have the problems. Please give me some suggestions.

It does have a fuel filter the fule filter is part of the fuel pressure regulator in the fuel pump assembly. That mesh thing you replced is a Strainer (also known as fuel pump sock).

when it dies after idling for 5 minutes will it start right up?
