head gasket, intake gaskets?

I take the title on this Lumina tomorrow and am going to get the name of the original owner and try and find out if the car has had the gaskets replaced. From web browsing it looks like the 3.1 had a garanteed gasket failure rate. I'm familiar with head gaskets but what is an intake gasket? If either were bad wouldn't you see white smoke out the tail or cross contamination of fluids or missing antifreeze. I suspect the owner did something but carfax doesn't show any maintenance records.

3.1 are good for intake gasket. the intake gasket is the top gasket at the intake.. if you ever replaced head gaskets you had to remove the intake, to do the job right..when it stats leaking coolant into the oil..

in my experience they leak external if its leaking you should see anti-freeze
or oil down the engine & on drive way.i no they leak internal also as cf1 has stated
