93 3.1 Euro Lumina stalling

Car will start and run for 10 seconds. Last 3 or so seconds has the engine sputtering/lights dimming then it stalls.

Car will stay running and idling if the key is held in START position instead of RUN.

All fuses check out fine. Checked the oil pressure sensor, ignition switch, fuel pressure. All check out fine.

Replaced the crank shaft sensor while trying to figure out the problem. ( as it was cracked all the way down the side )

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you mean by pushing the key forward a bit from the run position or while actually gringing the starter (eek)?

If holding the key out of position will make it run without grinding the starter the ignition switch (not the lock cylinder) is falling apart...

Only way to keep is running is actually grinding the starter :(

Sounds like it could be the fuel injectors! These Luminas have a track record of having the fuel injectors go around 170,000. There is a place in Indiana that will exchange all your injectors for under $200, otherwise find a shop that can bench test them. If the exhaust smells rich, then an injector may be stuck open! You can take off the intake manifold and check the resistance of each injector in Ohms but that does not tell the whole story. I replaced a shorted injector once and put the car back together and it still did not run right because another injector was leaking. It is best to just replace them all if your car has high miles on it, ie over 170,000. Summit Racing sells a set for around $200 for six instead of around $100 each at the auto parts store.
