97 chevy blazer no brake lights

I HAVE A 97 BLAZER WITH AFTER MARKET STARTER ALRAM SYSTEM.I JUST NOTICED HAD NO BRAKE LIGHTS OR HAZZARD LIGHTS. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP.WAS TOLD IT WAS MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH ASSEMBLY.I HAVE TURN SIGNAL AND WIPERS. DOES THIS ALSO CONTROL BRAKE LIGHTS? IF SO HOW HARD IS IT TO FIX AND HOW DO YOU WORK WITHOUT SITTING AIR BAG OFF. NEED HELP PLEASE. THANKS.:banghead:

Yes, brake and hazard lights are affected by the multifunction switch. The switch controlls what lights get current during whatever operation. I would check to see if all of your fuses are okay, and check incoming power at the switch.

Air bags are controlled by a sensor behind the front bumper. Doing normal maintenance on a vehicle near the bags or steering column should pose no immediate hazard UNLESS you do something to the thin wires going to the bag, and then you would have to break the insulation and apply some voltage source to the wires. The wires are usually protected in a yellow tube. Being in the fire service, I have taken many air bags out of junkers we are practicing on and set them off for the class. It takes voltage to get them going.
