New Transmission???

I have a 01 Blazer 115,000 miles ( I do a lot of traveling), about 2 1/2 weeks ago I notice that it would not go faster than 35 miles per hour, I took it to a transmission shop and it was stuck in 4WD. No problem??? On Monday I take the kids to school and stop by my mom's house, each time reversing the truck with no problem. I'm about 5 minutes from work and I hear a strange sound and the truck is up to 3000 rpms and still hasn't reached 20 miles per hour. I know it's a problem. When I get to work to park into my space. I can't reverse the truck, I try twice and no good. I make it home call the transmission shop and they say I need to have my transmission rebuilt, it's gone. I'm driving the truck back home and it shuts off and steering wheel locks up on me(almost causing an accident). What are my options and the costs. Granted I'm still paying for this mess.

What do you mean just shuts off? Did it stall? Is the Service Engine Light on? You need to get the truck scanned and see what codes are there. It will have something for sure, even if its not a engine problem, a slipping transmission will set a code. Pull the dipstick out and check the trans fluid level. Also, take a look at the colour of the oil, is it black, is it red, does it smell burnt? If the tranny is low on fluid, fill it to the proper range. No reverse is not a good sign, but before you jump to conclusions, check the basics first.

As said check the basics.
Low on fluid will do things like that.
Has the transmiswsion ebeen serviced or engine tuned up?
The engine has to run good for the trssnsmission to work good.
This could be a engine running or a transmission computer problem.

There is no way a transmission shop or any place can check it out over the phone.
Beware of transmission chain stores.
Many are rebuild happie.

Find a good repair shop and have it checked out.
Tips on finding a good repair shop.
Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

My engine is good. The transmission fluid is good. I was able to take the truck to the transmission shop and they test drove the truck for me and told me I'll need to have my transmission rebuilt and I should not continue to drive it or it will be unfixable. After I left the shop going home is when everything just went out on me.

Did they just drive or check it out?
Did they say what the problem was or did they just want to rebuild it.
Was the transmission shop a transmission chain store or a good transmission shop with a good reputation.
I would get a second opinion from a good repair shop.

In your first post you said the engine was stalling.
Are you sure the engine stalling is not part of the transmission problem?

My personal mechanic referred me to this transmission place...and they did test drive the truck with me in it. The truck didn't stall it completely shut off on me after I left the transmission shop. I had to keep trying to start it and it finally started again only for it to try and shut off. I had to give it the gas while holding the brakes, then go...only for it to them shut off at the next corner. Then I had to do the same thing again...then it shut off again...this time I had to get a jump...the it completely shut off after the jump. My mechanic said that it all could be transmission related.

I would get a second or third or another opinion on it.
It may have a transmission problem BUT.
If the engine is shutting off you have a engine running or electrical problem.
Which could also cause the transmission to act up.
Remember the engine has to be running good for the transmission to work good.
Good Luck

My truck has never shut off on me before. I'm not like most females, I take pride in my truck and keep up with maintenace very well...tune-ups, oil change, tires...everything.

Mantiance and tune up are good things to do.
And prevents a lot of problems.
But some things can go bad sometimes.
I may be wrong but if the engine is dying on you you should have that end checked and fixed first.
Good Luck
