nosiey under high acceleration

Hi All,

93 lumina, 3.1 -

wifes daily driver... three issues:

#1 a few weeks ago, she said it was stalling a couple of times randomly, so I took off the snorkle, and cleaned the IAC, and did the whole TB cleaner spray on the flap, used a toothbrush to really get the black stuff off...

put it all back together, relearned the idle, and it ran great...

but now, today, when you get on the highway at higher acceleration, it's making nosie... only when you really give it gas... I also notice it doesn't have as much pick up durring this time either...

it's coming from the drivers side of the engine - and I know that is where the intake is...

so, is this just an ill fitting air cleaner making all that noise? or a pin hole in the snorkle? or?? sounds bad...

the engine doesn't run rough or anything like that, but somethings not exactly right.

#2 got it back home, wanted to check out the problem, and went to open the hood, and the handle broke off!! It's getting really cold here, so it must have been from that, and the release not being well lubricated lately, etc...

My question here is, can I just replace the handle, or will I need a whole new cable too? I can feel the end of the cable, and it's little metal ball, etc

#3 I noticed on our test run, the car never got over about 130 degrees... stuck open themostat, correct? it normally heats up right away, and then you can see the T-stat open on the gauge, and it will fall down a little bit, like it should.

anyways, I do have a #4 too

I noticed that the Tranny fluid level was low, and I checked it, warm, idling in park, and it was just on the stick - so I added like 1/2 a quart, and the level never got any higher!! it stayed the same! (yeah, I wiped the rag off before I re-checked it) - I didn't want to overfill it, but it's nowhere near the hash marks on the stick.

Any ideas on the above?

Thanks,
Bob

Noise needs on site analysis, can't from here obviously, repl the t'stat, fill trans till you get the proper reading, no other way. Try Napa or Carquest, Dorman help products may make just the handle.
