Hallo to all,my intention is to build this model adding all the missing details in the Tamiya kit ,in this I will help me with the lathe and other machines , I will also use other simple materials without using aftermarket parts, the reference pictures I have are from the SMS cd,but many particulars of the real car are missed,a great help comes from the Jacky Ickx fans site and the Gunnar Racing site, the only problem is the really small size of the pictures .

The bodywork was washed, sanded, glued filled and painted with matt white professional spray over 2 coat of flat white primer.

Wooohooo, bring it on fella - I'm looking forward to this one already!

I've always thought this model lends itself to scratchbuild detailing rather than going the SMS route (lovely though their parts are)

If I can make a suggestion on the body for starters please? Cut the oversized rear side window rubber moulding out as the original ran perspex bonded in place with a thin black siicone bead - it also gives you a chance to sand the kink out of the corner shape which is just plain ugly (and wrong)!

Good luck with the build!

After few days I applied the masking using Tamiya tape and Parafilm to realize the front stripe, than painted in flat red.http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/1886/dscn1611tv8.jpg

I'm confused, you did an excellent job on the body, but if your adding hundreds of machined details, why did you paint the body and leave the molded in hood pins? Do you have more body work to do?

Nino Furicchio
11-09-2007, 12:11 PM
Thank you for the comments,I answer with order ,first in some photos the back side glass has the rubber gasket in others no ,like the wheel covers occasionally used, the continuous changes are normal in a racing car.
The hood pins are aftermarket parts photoetched for the precision, and if I'm not able to draw them in Adobe Illustrator I can't start the P.E. process what I cannot do from myself remains untouched in the original kit.

One of the rear wheels machined, the centers are the inner part of the original wheel machined at the lathe ;the crome has been eliminated with a mixture of water and ammoniac.http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/6010/dscn1738gs5.jpg

Wow. Nino, did you thread the ends of those shocks? Did you use a small tap/die?

Murray

Nino Furicchio
11-10-2007, 03:43 AM
Yes,to have a better ride heigth of the finished model all 4 shocks are adjustable
(small adjustments), the rod of each shock must definitely be assembled with
thread locking chemical product (Loctite). The bottom part of the rear shocks is
the original kit shock modified at the lathe as follows in the picture.

One of the disc brakes comletely drilled ,new wheels hub machined at the lathe,
they has a filleted hole of M2 millimeters at the bottom and can be fitted easily
with the M2 screw in the kit

Thank you for the comments,I hope that my ideas will be useful also for you.
In the picture: the brakes with the wheel hubs,a new exagonal nut for the wheel locking completely
machined at the lathe made from aluminum exagonal bar (really hard to find
item in Italy, this one in particular is obtained from a old pen). The hexagonal
nuts that I have used before didn't convince a lot me but now is ok.

The motor has received a treatment of painting similar to what is used with
Alclad II, but as final color I have used silver acrylic Vallejo and finally a layer
of automotive clear 1K to seal the color underlying, the washings will be done
at the end. A new pulley set was machined at the lathe, the holes of lightening
are passing through and have been done on the divisor built by me,the pulley
belts are made with a special tape called Letraline made by Letraset.

Wow, those fittings (from the hex bar) look great. I have to say that I've been trying to make something like that on my own lathe (from small hex bar), and am really struggling. The thin/small brass just isn't strong enough to handle the machining (at least the way I'm doing it....). I have it really close in to the chuck, but still struggle.

Is there any chance you might do a mini-how-to on machining those? Tools/bits you use, pics of your setup, etc, etc? How big is the hex bar across the flats?

Very nice work. Thanks for the pics and updated. Checking in everyday hoping for more updates!!!

Hallo the exagonal brass bar is 2 mm for the fittings and 1,5 mm for the stud bolts/nuts but other size are available in Italy at this page:http://http://www.utensilirevelli.com/profili-di-ottone-profilo-esagonale-pieno-c-98_109.html

For me it is very simple let me think.. 5 minutes every piece. Being all equal pieces, once done the first one the other ones are so easy to turn; I recommend for this kind of machining a good pair of glasses as those used in philately: I use a 2X magnification lenses and my eyesight has appreciated.
If you want send me images of your set up and I can tell you what to do.

The second ..handful of small fittings glued in place, I'm not sure of the correct name of the 2 intakes,Tamiya instructions speaks of " inter cooler" but I don't understand how they can exchange the heat in the boosted air from the turbo to the engine.
I need help,I have lost the copy of the 2 instuction book included in every SMS superkit, the most important for me is the 8 page full color, for the schematic diagrams that are inside: can someone help me?

I don't understand, you don't understand how the intercooler functions to cool the air or you don't understand how it would work in this application?

Thank you for the comments; If I had the schematic diagrams everything would be easier and without incomprehensions: in base to my deductions this engine didn't have an intercooler, I made reference to the name in English language that Tamiya brings in the instructions of the kit, and what they call inter- cooler are the 2 intake manifold ,if I am wrong please correct me.

This 935 features two water-to-air intercoolers (the two big boxshaped thing on top of the intake trumpets). The water of the intercoolers is cooled by radiators in front of the rear wheels. Top notch work by the way!
