Automatic overdrive II

Hi guys,
I've got a '73 Dodge Van, B 200, w/ 318 & 727. I want to upgrade to an automatic overdrive. What I need to know is which tranny will work for me. I've heard that a 42 RH, a 46 RH & a 518 A will work. I won't be 'hot rodding' the ole girl, so a medium duty tranny will work fine. There are no electronics.

What I need to know is the year(s) and model(s) to look for when I go to my local "Pic-n-Pull" junkyard. I'll (1) sniff the juice and (2) pull the pan to look for any 'lumpy' parts before I buy. I know that fine, little gray stuff is OK.

I know I'll have to modify the driveshaft & tranny mount; that is no problem for me. What I do need to know is the configureation of the various tranny 'plug-ins', ie. which wire goes where (overdrive, lockup, neutral saftey & backup lights)

Thanks for yer consideration and any info ya may have for me,

Mo

This page should tell you what you need to know in order to swap to a 518.

I would be looking for a trans out of a early 90's (92-94) Van similar to what you have the extra parts will come in handy. Just stay way from the trans with the output sensor in the OD section. Defiantly get the 46RH (A518). The only electronics are the TCC and OD gear. Take the drive shaft too and have then cut it to length if the rear u-joint is the same or even have then weld the old end cap on if possilbe

troy1,
Thanks a lot for the info; yer the first to come up with actual year models. Thanks for the tip on the Van, too, as the crossmember will be easier to adapt. One more question; do ya have any comments about the TV cable/linkage, I'm sure I can adapt it, if it has one...
