Jeep Grand Cherokee Airbag Lightwtiger 11-05-2007, 08:55 PM My airbag light comes on and it beeps every minute or so, drives me crazy :banghead: My Jeep is a 99 and I saw something on the internet about a recall for that very reason. I called a local dealership and was told that my Jeep was not one that was recalled. Anyway.....can anyone tell me how to unhook it or is there a fuse I can pull loose until I can afford to get it fixed??? Goldfishy 11-10-2007, 02:52 AM Mine was a 99' also, but most likely it's the clockspring that's located behind the airbag. Get the OEM part from the dealership ($145) and replace yourself. Total time: 10-15 minutes Yank the steering wheel out, you'll see the clockspring there, pull out the old and replace. If you have cruise control, you may noticed that could be affected also. Soon, your horn will not work, that's why I replaced it asap. The clockspring controls all those functions: airbag light, cruise control and horn. Do an archive search, it was done recently. Throwing parts at the problem, and engaging in repairing a system as technical and critical as an airbag system (http://www.airbagsolutions.com) could be very dangerous and could end up costing you more in the end. Although the clockspring (http://www.airbagsolutions.com/docs/Clockspring.pdf) is often the problem, its one of many components and wires inthe system. I have included the link here for an airbag control unit recall (http://www.airbagsolutions.com/docs/nhtsa2.pdf) on 1999 Jeep cherokee's, but there is no recall for a 99 Grand Cherokee. The only clockspring recall I see, is here (http://www.airbagsolutions.com/docs/nhtsa1.pdf), (for the mopar minivans). Feel free to search the NHTSA website through this link (http://www.airbagsolutions.com/resources.aspx). Get the system scanned, so you know what you're facing Good luck vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
