99 7.3l diesel stalls when cold

I have an automatic f-250 4x4 ext cab w/195,000 miles on it. Recently it started a short buzzing noise when I turned the key on, which sounds like it is coming from under the steering wheel or behind the firewall driver side. Then it began stalling on me in the mornings when it is cold and usually when I am going up hill. The truck would slow to idle while in drive but it would not rev up. If I pulled over and let it warm up a little more it then runs fine. I have replaced air and fuel filters which were dirty, but still same problem. Any advise would be a huge help. Trying to not take it to dealer and do not know any good diesel mechanics in area.

Thanks
Bill-

no haven't bleed the injectors, and was using rotella 15w 40 but was just told to switch to carquest brand by a diesel mechanic. It died on me this morning so had to tow it to a shop.

Sounds to me like you need to check your glow plug relay. It would explain both your cold weather and noise problems.

Did that same "diesel mechanic" that told you to switch to carquest oil have a solution to your problem? LOl Theres nothing rong with Rotella oil, its one of the better diesel oils out there, i dont know who makes the carquest brand. Sounds like a glow plug problem to me too.

I realize this thread is kind of old but thought I'd throw a couple other possibilities out there in case you haven't got it figured out yet.

It could be that your Exhaust Back Pressure Valve is staying closed longer than it should. Go to http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/f24/wastegate-actuator-control-question-186995/ to read more on this.

It could also be that your electronic gas pedal is choosing not to work correctly.

I'd also swap out the cam position sensor with a new one to see if that changes things.
