loose electrical wire? replace connector or blower motor?

2001 Malibu LS:
Used Haynes and tested the Blower Motor Connector with a volt meter and tests o.k. Also disconnected the blower motor and tested it with the battery, and works fine! also works when out of the housing unit, including at the different speeds.

Also tested Blower Resistor Connector and tested o.k. as well does the different speeds when the blower motor is hanging down in hand (with leather glove).

Problem is that the motor slows down; more specifically speeds back up when I push up on the wires connecting to the Blower Motor Connector. I think I have a loose wire, but can't tell how to shove it back in as seems tight. The Haynes auto repair manual doesn't seem to cover loose wires.

I've thought it may be the blower motor as well, and can replace that. wife's 01' Malibu LS has 108,000 miles on it.

The radiator fluid appears to be in bad shape, and was told that it should not effect the performance of the heater.

When I took out the HVAC blower motor and put it back in before it worked well for about a week, then quit working well again, in that works "when it wants too!" Easy enough to replace the blower motor (I haven't replaced the fan and don't have instructions on how to pull that off).

Wife already paid dealer three hundred dollars to put dye in the a/c to figure out if a leak, and they saw no leak! I figure it's a loose wire and/or the HVAC blower motor is old and tired (like me).

Any advice greatly appreciated,
Sincerely and Respectfully Submitted,
SChristianson (wife has me in the dog house... as took me all summer to get this far and now freezing weather and dangerous to drive without a reliable defroster)

Yea electrical issues suck. A garage will charge you an unknown fortune to fix the problem being that it can be time consuming.

Problem is that the motor slows down; more specifically speeds back up when I push up on the wires connecting to the Blower Motor Connector. I think I have a loose wire, but can't tell how to shove it back in as seems tight. The Haynes auto repair manual doesn't seem to cover loose wires.

If you push on the connector and get better contact my guess is that one of the female pins are opened up to wide and not contacting with the male pin or you have a bad crimp. Look at all your pins make sure none are bent then push your wires independently to see which one gives you a change in state.

The radiator fluid appears to be in bad shape, and was told that it should not effect the performance of the heater.

What do you call bad shape? Is black with oil? at 108K it may be an intake gasket. If it's been a few years since you changed your anti freeze...it needs to be done otherwise your wife will really have you in the dog house if she gets stranded somewhere because she overheats, blows the rad etc.

Best of luck.

I've had the same problem on my 99 Malibu heater motor connector. Believe me, the easiest solution is to purchase a GM blower motor. I tried several other things first .
1) I wedged a shim up in there by the connector to apply pressure. Worked for half a day.
2) I tied the connector up tight against the motor with a tie strap. Worked for half a day too.
3) I purchased an after market blower motor (economical price), but it didn't have the connector, only 2 wires. Bloody nuisance to try to deal with that in a cramped space.
I returned it and finally bought the GM motor. Installed it, snapped the connectors together, and it works like a dream. Why didn't I do lthat first? PS: I also replaced the resistor board before I discovered the problem was at the blower motor connector.

Agreed...the connection issue is in the blower motor itself, done many. And yes, spend the extra and get one from gm, the aftermarket ones are a pain in the ass.(you have to cut and splice the wiring on them :p
