The vehicle has 160K+ and besides regular maintenance the only problem I've had, is that the starter needs replaced about every 2 1/2 years.

Two days I went to start the car and it would not turn over, thinking it was the starter I had it towed to the garage to get it replaced. However, that was not the problem. The mechanic called and told me that every time the key was turned fuel was running into the air filter from the manifold.
So, I went to the shop and I actually watched it happen. The mechanic stated that he had never seen anything like this and that he was stomped about the problem.

After some research on this site I found the following thread and I'm wondering if this is the same problem on my car. Thanks for all the help.

Only time I remember seeing fuel sneeze back to the airbox on fuel injection when cranked is when the timing chain breaks or jumps...wouldn't surprise me at that mileage.

If the fuel pressure regulator is bad, fuel from the rail could be escaping past the regulator diaphram and up the vacuum line to the throttle body then down to the air cleaner assembly as stated in the thread-link you posted.
