my dad changed my oil in my 2001 cavalier. he cannot find the oil filter. my car manual does not show where it is located. just where is it located and can he change it from the top. or would he do better by jacking up the car again. please help.

The oil filter is located almost midway down in the engine compartment. It's closer to the passenger side, and the best way to get to it is from the underside so yes, jack it back up. Go straight back from the middle of the front bumper a couple feet and you'll see it. It's kind of a pain to get to, but i always change my own oil. good times had by all.

Just as they have said, it is located on the back of the engine on the pasanger side, I too would go from the underside and if you have an oil filter wrench it will be so much better for you
