i test drove a 2000 svt today, and one problem that concerns me is that when shifting into 3rd it makes an awful "rough engagement" sound. the owner said that he thinks its in the shifter itself but i would like to get another view on this. i dont think it would be the shifter but i didnt get a chance to get a closer look at it

Id guess probably $1500+. Labor is going to kill you. Subframe has to be unbolted, and engine has to be lowered to remove the bolts from the bellhousing. Not to mention, Ive read so many horror stories about shops that know nothing about this platform and the transmission is worse than when it started. Id pass on that SVT.
