What do we mean by dull? Performance, Style, which years are we referring too? I can think of 70's, 80's & 90's coupes that I liked less, and some aren't even on the market anymore. The Cougar had some bad years, but what coupe hasn't? Just my 2 cents.

I mean generally, as a car, its styling, what its like to drive etc... The Cougar has only had bad years over here :(

I don't think their dull. The old ones had some serious muscle & the new(well, they were new before Ford killed em' off)has some pretty nice curves. I'd roll in em'.

They've been making Cougars since the 60's. The 60's models all had good style, as well as good V8 power. Most of 60's Cougars I've seen came stock with a 302 V8. The 70's still had good power, but were more like the 70's Cadillac's. They were really big, so they needed the big V8. 80's models never came with a V8, which is sad but they still had some style points. 90's models look good, but never performed as well as I thought they should. Now the newest model which doesn't have a V8, has good styling. I think the newest model has good performance, but it's in the middle of the pack as comparing to it's rivals. Overall I liked the old 60's models best, just my 2 cents.

My 87 cougar kicks ass. It has some good power under the hood.

Any chance of pics showing the Cougar evolution? :)

My brother bought (new) a 1968 Cougar Eliminator with a 390; interesting car. And just before the name was killed off, didn't they offer a version ("S"?) with the Contour SVT's engine, brakes and suspension? That sounds interesting. Hadn't seen any in between that particularly interest me personally, but YMMV.:alien2:

Yeah, it's the 60's I'm talking about. Not like the eighties...I do think their kinda...I dunno...no offense to anyone with one.

Those "sequential" turn signals were mega-cool. Wish they'd make a comeback.

Cougars and T-Birds of the era had 'em (in the rear of the car only). The lamp housing was rectangular, and three seperate turn signal bulbs in each side by side. When one indicated the turn, the innermost of the three would light, and instant later the second one would join it, then the outermost would be added in -- and the sequence would repeat. This "motion" clearly showed the intended direction of the turn (OK, it looked cool, too ;)). IIRC, it required a special "controller" box somewhere in the car.

A 60.... I think 67 Cougar had a 455 or some huge block like that and was a beautiful car. It was pretty dull there fo a couple of years, but it was never really an ugly car.

I remember seeing back in an early 2002 issue of NZ Prestige and Classic there was a '69 Mercury Cougar with a 427 with 700+ bhp. It was the first V8 I truly lusted after :D

I love the Cougar. I would not call it dull at all. In fact, when I was looking to buy my ZX2, I looked at many Cougars too.

I'm not a fan of the re-born cougar, they just don't appeal to me. I really like the older ones, but I'm also partial to the ones from the 80's too. Maybe that's cause I use to own an 87 Cougar, which I thought was a pretty nice car when I was 17. Here's a pic of an older cougar I took from a car show last year, not sure of the year though.

did somebody say cougars? http://domestic-compacts.com/nopi2002/images/17.jpg

im really only a fan of the latest gen cougars (cdw-27 platform). Only ones that really appealed to my liking. Lots of potential as far as the engine goes. Two turbo kits available and a supercharger kit. And as you can see, the aesthetic department doesnt lack either.

The late sixties were the coolest. Drove one when I was in high school. 1968 was the only year for the sequential tail lights and required a black box for them to work.

I'm a Ford fan, so I'm partial to all Cougars. Every Pic posted so far look good. Looks like some $$$ was spent on these mods, sure makes the New-Gen Cougars even more appealing then they already are. Nice work!

Welcome to AF.

As an owner of a '68 T-Bird (which has the same controller) they must be maintained correctly in order to work reliably, including the occasional cleaning and lube.

That being said, please note this thread is almost 5 years old. Please do not resurrect old threads as other AF members find this a bit annoying.

However, you are more than welcome to start a new thread on this subject.

I am closing this thread due to extreme old age.
