Richard Burns Subaru Legacy Tribute Build

This is my contribution to the 'Tribute Build' the 1993 Subaru Legacy as driven by Richard Burns and Robert Reid featuring the Elonex sponsorship colours.
The kit is the Hasegawa 1/24th 1991 Rac version but will feature home made decals for the conversion to the Elonex colours featured on Richard's car.

The decals were printed on a colour laser printer and they came out really nicely. They aren't as good as aftermarket decals obviously, but they are perfectly usable and the print quality is more than acceptable. The 'cut out' one is the Prodrive fitted to the rear of the tub.

The chassis is mostly complete. Not a lot to see really and pretty straightforward to paint.Mostly black, white and a few metallic shades thrown in for good measure.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b61/stevenoble/SubaruLegacy042.jpg

The only change I made to the cockpit module was to replace the seatbelts with etched items from Eduard as I really don't like threading all those Hasegawa ones together and I never get them to look anything like decent.

Last off a few pictures of the chassis and tub fitted together

A very quick update with 1 picture. The body is painted (Zero Pure White) and cleared with Zero 2K stuff.I've now started the decals and they are going on quite well. After the decals are complete and dry I will clear the whole thing again then mask out and spray the black trim.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b61/stevenoble/SubaruLegacy007.jpg

Those red squares are a real pain and are taking the longest to apply they're driving me nuts :screwy:

Enough for tonight,more tomorrow

Another small update. Most of the decals are now finished.I had fitted the door number boards in my last post but they didn't look right, something was bugging me about them.Anyway when I compared them to the real car on video I saw what it was immediately. They were a little small on the top where it says 'Vauxhall' A quick re-scale took care of them and I have now printed 2 new ones ready for fitting.
Once the decals have had a good dry I am going to lightly clear over them and then mask and apply the black trim around the windows and body.I did my best with the many red squares and hope the positioning is reasonably accurate using the very few references I had. However they seemed to change from rally to rally so it's not such a problem.

Steve, great job. Love the colour scheme - it's so refreshing to see a Scooby in another scheme apart from the Blue and Yellow!

Out of interest, what decal paper do you use?

Yes,I have a day job,but I don't work the weekends and when I'm on the dayshift 6am-2pm like this week I get a lot of spare time in the afternoons to do modelling. On the late shift 2pm-10pm I don't get so much time in the mornings so things will slow down a bit next week.

The body has progressed since the last update. The main decals are now fitted,it has been cleared with Zero 2K,polished and had the black trim sprayed. It's now ready for the detail parts like the mirrors, lights, roof vent to be added.
I left off the decals on the doors (that contain the number) and also the large Childline logo on the roof. The reason was that the decal paper I printed them on had a slight yellow hue to it and placed on the white they looked awful. On the smaller logos you couldn't notice it,so they were fine as they were.I have re-made the door board decals and the Childline roof decal on white paper using the ink jet printer not the laser. These will be fitted at the end to avoid damage as the ink jet decals are pretty fragile when compared to the laser printed ones.
Here are some photo's of the body as it stands now.

Shouldn't be too long before it's finished. It's been a real joy to build so far. It's a shame there aren't more models of the Hasegawa Legacy being built,it's a really nice kit all round.

Thanks for all the nice comments, they are really appreciated.Yes I have just purchased a colour laser printer (Canon LBP5000) and it works really well for doing your own decals.
I am sorry for the lack of progress this week.I am working the late shift and I don't get a lot of time in the mornings.Should be another update very soon.

A quick final update before I post the finished pictures in the completed section. The finishing bits took longer than I thought (as they always do!!)
Hopefully if the weather is good tomorrow I can take some better outdoor pictures.
