General Motors Gasket Tablets GaryFenza 10-20-2007, 09:33 AM
ok, so i did my gaskets put the new ones(the metal and rubber kind) like 6 months ago. It seems to have another small leak from the exact same spot, im trying to catch it before it becomes another epidemic with coolent pouring out onto the ground, how many tablets should i use and how affective are they?? tblake 10-20-2007, 12:17 PM ah, none!!!! Man, i hate to say this, but you might have to go back in. But at least this time you will be a pro!!! Will you post a picture of where its coming out? Head gasket or lower intake gasket? Should have all the parts checked for warpage this time around. richtazz 10-20-2007, 01:18 PM when you reassembled the engine, did you put threadlock compound on the intake bolt threads? If not, they probably worked their way loose. As far as the seal tabs go, they will do no good on an intake leak. They work good for small paper gasket leaks and pin-holes, but won't plug rubber seal leaks. GaryFenza 10-20-2007, 04:21 PM yea i did all that like ya said, i can get a picture of where its coming from, but it is the lower intake manifold gasket that is leaking. What i did was this time around i sprayed water all over the "wet coolent" part to wash it away, then i put tablets in the radiator and drove the car a few miles to get the tabs to circulate through the block. well...it seems to not leak now, even when it cooled i didnt see no fresh coolent, but this might not actually be the end of the problem. I really do hate these 3.1 and 3.8 motors just for this pain in the ass problem, other than that they are good. tblake 10-21-2007, 12:46 AM yeah, the 3.1's are kind of notorious for coolant leaks. I've done so many of those damn lower intakes in the shop its not even funny. I think i could even do it in my sleep. GaryFenza 10-22-2007, 11:10 AM o well, i might take it apart again and do it if the problem keep happening, if its still leaking next spring i'll do the damn gaskets AGAIN Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
