89 Camary 2.0 Slow get up. Art559 10-20-2007, 05:04 AM
I bought a camary. I got it for 300 dollars. I did a regular tune up. oil change, spark pulgs, not the wires. coolant flush. But i am still having a very slow acceraltion. any pointers that i miss that anyone can tell me. I only had it for two days. Runs real good ideals ok. no putting sounds. only had one owner, and she had the car sitting for 7 months. RIP 10-20-2007, 12:51 PM Many possibilities. Retarded timing, weak fuel pump, weak spark, dragging brakes, among others. I would start with a timing check to see if the belt has slipped. Look through your maintenance manual at the top of the forum. rimfire,22 11-05-2007, 04:08 PM I would also check the exhaust system as maybe the converter or the muffler might be clogged. Also depending on the mileage the valves might be worn and therefore consuming oil. My 89' burns some every month and I couldn' think how badly worn the rings or sleeves might be. My suggestion world be to check everything it is about the engine and go from their. One thing is it might be all sludged-up inside. Have a good mechanic remove the valve cover and look inside. rimfire,22 Mike Gerber 11-05-2007, 05:40 PM "and she had the car sitting for 7 months." How long has the gasoline been sitting in the car? Gas can form a varnish after sitting for a long period of time, causing it to be less volatile and therefore hard for the engine to burn to produce power. Have you exhausted the gas that was sitting in the tank and refilled the tank with fresh gas since you have had the car? If that's not the problem, check the other ignition system componets that have not been replaced, like the distributor cap and rotor and the plug wires. Also be sure to check the ignition timing. Then move on to the coil inside the distributor. They are a known trouble area on the early generation Camrys. Mike xfeejayx 11-05-2007, 11:02 PM Ditto on the old gas. That stuff will clog everything up. I would run fuel system cleaner through it, maybe even use seafoam, Its an engine cleaner. Search seafoam in the camry forum if you aren't familiar with it. ToysRme wrote a very good howto on it. DFBonnett 11-06-2007, 03:45 PM OP, At this point you might want to consider replacing the wires, cap, and rotor to complete the tuneup. As others noted, that gas in it may be tired. I'd top it off with fresh ASAP. Congrats on a great used car find. JOET/CAMRY 11-07-2007, 10:44 AM I bought a camary. I got it for 300 dollars. My 89 Camry has 216,000 miles and still runs decent.:) JOET/CAMRY Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
