This acts up intermittantly...'00 S-10, 4.3, auto., I have owned this since new, it will spin over and not start until you move the tilt steering up and down a few times, and then it will fire right up.
What the heck could be not making contact in the steering column that would cause this condition?
Is there a harness or plug in assy. that gets pulled on when the wheel is tilted?
I have never had one of these columns , or dashboards apart, so I don't know whats in there.

Welcome to AF.
There is a lot of wiring and switches in there.
Be careful in there because it contains Air bag and air bag wiring.
Watch the security light and see if it comes on and goes off when key is turned on.
Does the fuel pump go threw the prime up when it does not want to start?

Thanks for the post!
The air bag stuff in there has me worried about getting into the column.
Seems like all functions normally when cond. exists...security light ok, fuel pump sound ( and pressure ) are ok, just spins over with no start until I tilt the st. whell fully up and down a few times.
I tell you what is nuts about this, when the truck was new, about 6 to 8 mos. old the same thing was happening. It did it for a couple of weeks, about 2 to 3 times a week when I would leave work to come home. I took it back for warr. and naturally they could not get condition to repeat...then, it never did it again until about a week ago, it started again.
Acts like something in that steering column is the culprit.

Sounds like a loose or broken wire in there.

The Sir /air bag can be disabled by leaving the battery cable off for a while.
I like to unhook the battery overnight to be on safe side.

If you still have a record of when and where you took it in to dealer for repair and it was not fixed they may do something on there dime.
Also have the dealer run it for recalls and TSB's on your problem and the 4 way flasher switch.
About 50K 4 way flashers switches were under a saftey recall.
Good Luck.
