1) Has an American Flag beside screenname

2) Has listed Dale and Dale Jr. as their favorite driver.

Looks like true Americans favor #3 and #8, while "others" are Gordon fans.

Since when do threads such as this have a "point?" What was the "point" of asking about a favorite NASCAR driver? Does the composer of this thread truly care who I, Maddog, favor in NASCAR? A thread such as this is purely for entertainment. Thus, no particular "point" must be made. Its not as though we were discussing superchargers, suspension or the like. Simply entertainment my friend. If by oversight, I have missed the "point" of this thread, I am truly sorry, and will refrain from posting anything lacking in substance and relavent information. I don't know about you, but the knowledge I've gained in this insightful, point-filled thread is immense to say the very least....Thank you....keep the knowledge and points coming!!!

Listen carefully "Friend", I was referring to the comment YOU made about "True Americans". I don't particularly care for content or what have you! As to having a point, what did having an "American Flag" next to their name and "Looks like true Americans favor #3 and #8, while "others" are Gordon fans", have to do with anything? Thank you.

Relax man, I was simply looking for some friendly bantar about the Dale vs. Jeff rivalry. However, since we now seem to be enthralled in a rather serious discussion regarding my inflamatory post, I will offer my refutation.

While not directed specifically at you, it appears that many who responded to this thread citing their support of Gordon were not Americans (Estonia, New Zealand, etc). Absolutely nothing is wrong with their support of Gordon, in fact I applaud their support of NASCAR from across the globe. However, I would wager they have never witnessed a Winston Cup Event in person. (I haven't seen many Estonians at Bristol :D ) Therefore, they cannot possibly fully grasp the sport of stock car racing. Going to a race adds a new demension to the sport that only those who have attened said events will fully comprehend. Thus, they show their support for Gordon without fully recognizing all aspects of this sport.

Truth be told, I'm not the consumate NASCAR fan. While I do attend at least one major race each year, I prefer SEC football to any motorsports. I was simply trying to inject this thread and the NASCAR forum with a little spice. Do I really care if you or others favor Gordon? Of course not, just wanted to incite a bit of controversy. Thanks for the replies!

That is all that was needed to be said. Now, as for the rivalry, you just made cuz Gordon right now stands the biggest chance to take it this year!!!:D:D:D I follow the races closely but, unfortunately, never attended one race. There aren't any raceways around me.

Indeed, Gordon has looked good this year. I respect the hell out of his racing abilities, just never been much of a fan of his. That's too bad about not being able to make it to a race. Although I don't live there now, when I go back home the track at Bristol is only about 20 min. from my house, so I usually make it to the Spring race. It's getting harder and harder to get tickets though (especially to the night race). Even with the new additions to the stands, you pretty much have to pay outrageous amounts to see a Winston event.

Based on current statistics, this year is tending to be NASCAR's best year to date. Sales of merchandise has gone up. I'm even in this online thing called Small World racing. Basically you pick 4 drivers that make up your team. You're then trying to rack up point to be #1. Kinda hard though. But as usual, Gordon has never left my roster. For this weekends race, I have Marlin, Rusty and Bodine. I just need them to be in the top 10 to make some good points.

Dale Earnhardt and Dale, Jr.
Although I will admit to pulling for Kenny Shrader, just because of his drive.

I started watching racing in the late '80s, and the only races you had even a shot of catching on TV were Cup races, so I watched them. Big E was still a rising star, and I work at a GM dealer, so he was a natural for me to root for.

I've been to a few races:
1999 Daytona 500
1999 MBNA 400 (Dover)
2000 Winston
2001 Virginia 500 (Martinsville)

I actually prefered Martinsville. You can see the whole track, the action is intense and there are cars no matter where you look.

My favorites have to be Dale Earnhardt, Dale Jr, and Harvick.

I hate Jeff Gordon with a passion. I respect him as good driver, but he's always the good boy, can't the guy ever show his bad side? You always hear about Tony, Rusty or Earnhardt, about having bad tembers. Doesn't Gordon ever get out of line?

I'm still amazed it's already been a whole year and Dale's gone. I remember sitting in front of the computer on Nascar.com for a full 5 minutes without blinking just totally stunned. I was so looking foward to a 8th Championship that year.

It took me forever to move on from Dale's death. But now I'm looking towards Jr. taking a championship home this year. So far after the Daytona 500 today it isn't starting off too well.

I cant deny the drawing power of nascar, but what really is hte draw? watching 3500lb, steel framed, pushrod powered rolling billboards crash into each other for hours upon hours. It is the least technically advanced racing fair out there. The thought of variable valve timing, and turbos would make a nascar diehard fan pass out. whats the big deal? why do some americans love it so much??? and the favorite driver? umm, dont they all just drive in a big circle? i could be wrong.

umm, yes i have seen several races, and i'm not impressed. but are you saying that WRC cars, and F1 cars and things of the like are less technically advanced? really, there isnt too much tech. in those nascars. and from the races i've seen, all you do is go around in a big oval. i'd rather be going on an actual road course where skill is needed. like in le mans racing, or gran prix. WRC racing is probably the ultimate of skill in my opinion. and uhh, i'm not taking out of my shit hole or whatever you called it.

OK fine! Stack you beloved WRC/le mans/F1/JGTC/Gran Prix race car up against a NHRA top fuel dragster on any 1/4 mile and they will get their asses handed to them all day long. Tony Stewart jumped into the Northern Light Indy Racing Series in 1996, where he won rookie of the year. He also was named Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year before winning the IRL championship in 1997. He completed the arduous Indy 500/Coca-Cola 600 double in 1999, finishing ninth and fourth, respectively. The former karting champion made history by winning the USAC Midget, Sprint Car and Silver Crown championships in 1995, one year after he won the USAC national Midget championship.

Let me tell you why I like Nascar.Nascar has different tracks in size from a half mile to 2.66 superspeedways to road courses.Drivers have come back as far back as 38th to win races.Terry Labonte won the WC without winning a race a couple of years ago.You have 3 wide racing at some tracks that are not designed for it.Qualifying is done from the pole position to 38th with a 5 mile difference between them.Pit stops are a vital factor as well.So to say which series is best is crap BECAUSE EACH IS DIFFERENT IN ITS OWN RIGHT.:flipa:

I could care less about the opinions of the "known racing world." My guess is these opinions by this racing world you speak of are tainted with jealousy as they too would like to reach the level of following NASCAR has achieved.

I'll agree that in most situations the types of racing you listed are indeed more challenging. However, this does not necessarily translate into more exciting. I tried to watch other types of racing, and while I appreciate the skill level required to race F1s, Le Mans, etc, I personally find NASCAR to be much more exciting. I love the rubbing and bumping of NASCAR, the off track confrontations, the driver personalitites, and the race day atmoshphere of a NASCAR race.

I know it's not for everybody and the same can be said for the types of racing you enjoy. I could care less about "converting" you into a NASCAR fan or pleading with you to give it a chance. If you don't like it, fine. Not everybody likes the same shit.

My buddy broke the rear end. Ran the deck into a hill a jamed it all up. We just picked up another one today. It is in fair condition and runs good. The #8 will be coming out soon. We where building a deck and the home owners asked if we wanted it for free. Told us to get it out of the way.

you should just go to places, ask to cut their lawn for money, and have a big race between like 5 mowers.. you guys would be the fastest mowing company around.

All living legends. Dale junior wins so often, he has flames on the sides of his eyes. Then Rusty, never let's those kids get away from him, and always runs up front in the pack top 10. Tony Sterart? :grinno: (cough cough)Then of course the world's most noted legendary highly recognized race car driver of all time, Jackie Stewart.

Who can bring it around? Who can highball at 190mph+ and bring it up front? Not many make it to highball up front, and very few stay there for very long. It's chess on wheels! Who can bring it around?! That is the question!...:sunglasse

Jimmie Johnson! I like Mark Martin but the man is getting old so I figured it was time to pick a new driver and thats how I ended up with 48. I just want to see Gordan get 8 championships or atleast 7 to piss off the earnhardt fans. ANYBODY BUT DALE!

Are you guys kidding me...Gordon? Dale and Dale Jr are the past and the future of NASCAR. Dale made NASCAR what it is today and Dale Jr. will carry the sport into the future.

Is little Taylor going to race too? :iceslolan

i have a question:

I cant deny the drawing power of nascar, but what really is hte draw? watching 3500lb, steel framed, pushrod powered rolling billboards crash into each other for hours upon hours. It is the least technically advanced racing fair out there. The thought of variable valve timing, and turbos would make a nascar diehard fan pass out. whats the big deal? why do some americans love it so much??? and the favorite driver? umm, dont they all just drive in a big circle? i could be wrong.
That's stupid :iceslolan :screwy: :screwy:

I'm a big fan of Roush Racing. The first driver I ever really followed was Mark Martin. Mark is a champion in my eyes no matter if he has the trophy or not. Carl Edwards is an incredible driver and a really good person too. When he won the truck race at Daytona last year he gave the trophy to a kid that was with him. I place Kurt Busch right up there with Jeff Gordon as one of the best drivers in the series right now and I think if anyone has what it takes to repeat the title these days its Kurt. Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth are both great drivers as well.
Other than the Roush drivers I'm also a big fan of Kasey Kahne, Tony Stewart, and Kyle Busch.

I was a huge Earnhardt, sr. fan and i although i don't like jr. nowhere near the same, he is still an earnhardt. also though, looking forward to watching dave blaney behind the wheel of the new Jack Daniels car.

I like Dale Earnhardt Jr., but I still think he is a few years from a title. He is just lacking the bulletproof consistency some of these other teams like Roush and Hendrick have. Just my opinion I could be completely wrong. Kasey Kahne is my favorite by far if I could only pick one driver out there although Carl Edwards is getting closer. He is having a lot of bad luck so far, but I think it can be somewhat attributed to the softer tires.

Mark Martin, been my favorite ever since I started following NASCAR's premere series in 1994...lookin for a title finally in his last full season, looks like it's gonna be tough, with his best competition coming from his teammates.

Bobby Labonte, granted he's not a title contender and he's been struggling, but he's still one heck of a driver because he's one of the rare, but true, clean drivers. He races you hard without putting you in the wall. If more drivers were like him, we wouldn't have guys slugging each other after races b/c they were putting each other in the wall!

My all-time favorite is Jeff Gordon. Like him or not you can't dispute he is one of the USAs best ever.
