Key Fob Distance Burtnette 10-14-2007, 05:43 PM
1997 Grand Prix GTP 3800 Ok so on the key fob thing when I try to lock/unlock my car or anything on it I have to be like literally 5 feet away from my car for it to work. Is this how it is for everyone else? It seems like it should work from farther away but it doesn't. Also the guy I got it from got a new one but didn't program it so I used the old one for a while (had to be just as close) then once I programmed the new one I still had to be very close. Any ideas? ericn1300 10-14-2007, 09:26 PM try changing the battery yet? BNaylor 10-14-2007, 09:42 PM GM specifies a range of at least 3 feet and up to 30 feet away. Mine works at the max limit but I have a good battery and the remote is in good shape. Replaced about 6 months ago. Burtnette 10-14-2007, 10:16 PM try changing the battery yet? Do you mean the battery on the fob or is there one in the car? Cuz I got the key fob brand new about 2 months ago and ever since I programmed it it's only worked from a few feet away  proscroby 10-14-2007, 10:47 PM I had the same problem and changing the battery solved it. Burtnette 10-14-2007, 11:03 PM Which battery? Car battery? One in the key fob? A whole different battery? :screwy: richtazz 10-15-2007, 11:10 AM Change the battery in the fob itself. Most short range issues are caused by a low battery in the fob. After changing the battery, you'll have to resyncronize it by pressing and holding both the lock and unlock buttons for 7-10 seconds (until you hear the locks cycle). tblake 10-16-2007, 12:10 AM I didnt have to do this with mine when i changed the battery Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
