Some progress in my NSX Mobil 1. I have started this built ages ago... Now, I have decided not to start any new one till this one will be finished. I hope I keep my promise :)

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/NSX%20Mobil1/DSCN1448a.jpg

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/NSX%20Mobil1/DSCN1453a.jpg

Fuel filler and carbon/kevlar decals for the driver's seat, interior etc. I use AcuStion details set as well. At the very begining I wanted to heavily modify this model but in the end it is going to be "almost" OOB

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/NSX%20Mobil1/DSCN1458.jpg

Body primed and sanded. I use Tamiya putties and primers. Before final colour I have primed all of the body parts with white primer

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/NSX%20Mobil1/DSCN1461.jpg

Painting process begins...

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/NSX%20Mobil1/DSCN1450a.jpg

Body primed white and waiting for TS-paint

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/NSX%20Mobil1/DSCN1454a.jpg

Other parts - cleaned and primed. I keep them in the box usually ordered: painted/to be painted or by colour

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/NSX%20Mobil1/DSC_8144a.jpg

Engine glued to the frame. Exhaust pipes were cut apart as the Tamiya molded them "glued" This has been done more for the fun then effect. At the bottom all will be covered with panel and difusor.

Wathering: first painted with gloss black (Tamiya TS) than Alclad "Pale burnt Metal" After that Jet Exhaust was sprayed. At the end I have use Tamiya weathering sets to give it final look.

I have washed engine very, very slightly with Tamiya Smoke (enamel)

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/NSX%20Mobil1/DSC_8145a.jpg

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/NSX%20Mobil1/DSC_8159a.jpg

Wheels: I have painted them using Tamiya Gun Metal (acrylic) than cleared with Gunze clear. Sakatsu air valves added

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/NSX%20Mobil1/DSC_8151a.jpg

Decals were put with Gunze Setter/Softener fluids. All of the body will be cleared with automotive clear than finally detail painted

You're off to a wonderful start. The exhaust looks great and I've always loved this livery. However, could you please add a text description to your pictures? We'd like to know what you're doing, with what, how, etc., so that we can learn from you and give you suggestions. Otherwise, looks great!!

This looks good and your work space is very cleaned up. I would never have the discipline going for these boxes...Question: Which tone of color did you use on the body? Is it the AS-20 Tamiya Insignia white or regular racing white?

Hiya Macho Macio ;)

I am sure that:
a) this will be as good as all you builds; and
b) you won't keep your promise ;)

Decals are painted with Gunze Super Clear Grey Tone (matt). This paint has very subtle pigments and give convincing surface. The rest is done with Tamiya weathering set (soot)

I decided to modify roll cage as the Tamiya's is to much simplified. Steel - Tamiya, white parts - mine.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/NSX%20Mobil1/DSC_9874a.jpg
Unfortunately, measurements were wrong :(

It looks bad when assembled. Too low and generaly speaking wrong at all. The only good thing is that it is not glued yet :) I will have to do it again...

it seriously doesnt look too bad to me, after the mess I made of my Celica roll cage this looks perfect. Where is it wrong, is it too low?

Yes, it sits too low and front pilar has wrong angle. In real it is not that obvious but you can spot it at the first look. In other words - positive effect of the modified cage is dimnished or even completely lost by bad design :)

And drivers wear helmets anyway... So what if it is a bit too low.:silly:

Looks pretty good, however for the bars that form the x on the top often there is only one diagonal. The diagonal usually connects to the front corner at the window on the side where the driver sits. This is usually done to prevent the driver from hitting his head on the bar. If you check out some of the other Tamiya kits with right hand drive Like the Nissan R32's and full cages you will see this type of layout.

Yes, no doubt then you are correct, however that is why I said often and not always. It seems to have to do with whether there are co-drivers or not.

I still don't like roll cage :)
In the meantime I finished some interior details. I use different kinds of carbon decals to get (in my opinion) more natural effect and not dull interior.

Here I used Modeler's decal

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Macio4ever/pulpit.jpg

and here Scale Motor Sport

Body has been clearcoated and waiting for some sanding process and one more coat. This time I'm using Finisher's Auto Clear.

I slowly finish interior details with some minor modifications (not in the pictures).

Incredible work so far. The body came out perfect, those have got to be the smallest A-pillars ive ever seen! lol
The interior stuff is coming out great! like the weathering.

hows the cage coming?

Macio4ever
12-10-2007, 03:25 PM
Thanks...
Cage is still in form of styrene raw bars :) I have to wait a moment till body dries

In the meantime ... Seat painted and decaled with Studio 27 cevlar pattern.
One shot of interior - only dry fitted.

Next move: paint and decal interior, weather and glue all parts together. I think I will add some wiring to make it more "alive" as well as carbon decals on the doors

I hardly ever come into the WIP motorsports side of the forums but this is truly great work. I have the same model and it is no where near the quality you've made yours to be. I'm tempted to strip mine and mail out for new decals to start over.
