Theft light comes on when the car is stone cold and wont start. I get the 1 minute fast blink followed by the code 16 blink, after about 2 minutes it goes out and im able to start the car. Iv tried getting new key, and there are no big metal objects or anything else confusing the receiver.

Why does this only happen when cold? Can the flow of electricity effect or warm up certain components?

Would it be worth spending $100 on the receiver coil to "take a chance"?

Please help winter is coming and I dont want to wait 6 mins to start my truck BRRRRRRRRRRR.

Do you have an original spare key to try? I hear these keys send codes back to and internal antenna in the key switch. To do this they have to have a battery, don't they? I'm having the same problem and can;t find my original spare, but I'm about to bust open my only other original key to see if it has a battery. Otherwise, coded keys, and replacement ignition switches can get pretty far in my wallet.

Let me know if you have any luck with this..

I am pretty sure that those keys do not have a battery in them, I believe the vehicle sends a signal to the key and it bounces back to the transmitter, if it doesnt bounce back then it activates the pats, to answer your question though cold and heat have a big impact on electronis things, leave your laptop or your cell phone in the cold and see how well they work. I would say that you are going to need a new transmitter.
