My daughter's 99 VW Beetle 1.8 gas turbo had the alarm go off unexpectedly several times this morning. She also said that her truck ajar light goes on momentarily at times when driving. Im thinking that a sensor of some sort in the truck latch may be at fault. Any help would be appreciated.

Makes sense to me. This would trigger a false alarm as well. Try opening the trunk and closing the latch with a screwdriver. Then look to see if you get the same intermittent light

My daughter is also having the same problem. Trunk light started to display this past week although the trunk is closed. Today, the alarms started going off at random.
