Was given a Toyota about a month ago, today went to look at it and it has all the normal rust on the body but overal it's a nice looking truck. Was told it needs a HeadGasket Because it would always loose fluid, but was told it leaks into only one Cylender can this be possible? Also was wondering if anyone could help me with finding Body Panels and performance Upgrades for the truck since right after i get it running *PERFECT* im gonna do sum upgrades to give it alittle boost in the performance department. Any and all help is greatly appreciated and i thank you in Advance.

Totally possible.

The 3.0 V6 was prone to blown HGs, so much so there was a recall campaign.
Take the VIN to a dealer to see if it was ever done. It may still be eligible.

The 22R/RE 4 cyl is also known for HG problems. I've seen several where it resulted in cracked heads.

Hmm i will do that right away, i just was given the recal for the TieRods so im gonna have that done as soon as i get the truck here. I dont know if the HG is actually blown. Because i was told that it looses Coolant and that is why the guy thought it was blown, but that could be a few other things that could make it loose coolant so when i get the truck to my house im gonna run it on a tarp and see if any AF dripes out , i know im gonna have to buy new Radiator Hose's and a new Radiator so maybe i'll b lucky and the radiator will be the solution. He took the Radiator out of the truck and put it in another Toyota and left this one for the last 3 yrs. So... I will keep everyone posted, and if u have any other ideas of maybe mods let me know. Only thing i figure im gonna do right away if the hg is bad is send the head out to be shaved and do the Gasket myself , but other then that i dunno what else there is i would do/ Could do.

thanks for the help btw

Can sumone find me sum info on that Hg Recall, i have looked around for awhile now and havn't found anything. Only found it on the TieRod's and sumthing for the exterior Lights.

Also another question, would it be possible for me to put 16" rims on this truck instead of 15" rims? I have a "Newer" set of 16" tires in my garage that i was going to put on my Chevy that im gonna be selling and figure i should just toss them on this truck since i need new tires/rims on it any ways.

OK, you still haven't said what engine you have. :uhoh:

If it's the 4 cyl the Timing Chain could have worn thru the cover, causing coolant and oil to mix, >>> coolant loss.

If you can't find info on the recall, you aren't trying. :shakehead

There's this thing called GOOGLE

22Re, and yes i have been trying i use Both Google and Ask and neither of them brought up anything on that perticular recall, although there was a forum type sight that actually had sumone talking about how they had there's replaced under the recall, but still havn't found any site that gives me the info to call up a dealership and make sure it's actually still covered by the recall.

Now if the Timing Chain had done that what would be the appropriate way to determin if it actually is that problem that caused it? And, what would be the correct steps to correct the issue...

- New Timing Chain Obviously
-WOuld i need to replace the cover?
-Could there be any further issue with the engine internals? If so would it be possible to flush the entire engine with sum type of Engine Cleaner... *SeaFoam* or such other products...?

To GOOGLE about 5 secs:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Make / Models : Model/Build Years:
TOYOTA / 4 RUNNER 1994-1995

TOYOTA / 4RUNNER 1989-1993

TOYOTA / PICKUP 1989-1995

TOYOTA / T100 1993-1998

Recall Number: 05V389000
Summary:
ON CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, IF THE STEERING WHEEL IS REPEATEDLY TURNED UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS WHERE HIGH STEERING EFFORT AND POWER ASSIST ARE REQUIRED, FOR INSTANCE, WHEN FULLY TURNING THE WHEEL WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED, A FATIGUE CRACK MAY DEVELOP IN THE STEERING RELAY ROD.
Consequence:
IF THE VEHICLE IS CONTINUED TO BE OPERATED IN THIS CONDITION, THE RELAY ROD MAY FRACTURE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE STEERING RELAY ROD. THE RECALL BEGAN OCTOBER 5, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.
Notes:
TOYOTA RECALL NO. SSC 50N. CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do a compression check on the engine and a leak down test on the cooling system. Should be able to figure out if it's blown HG or TC cover.

Also you can remove the valve cover and yank on the TC, if there's a lot of play,it's worn and may have worn a hole thru the cover. You can also pull the oil pan and see if there's pieces of the TC guides in it, a real good indication of a bad TC.

LOL, your right, I copied and pasted the wrong one :banghead:

It really doesn't matter though, it was for the 3.0 V6, not the 4 cyl.

I know this is an older post, but just in case someone does a search for reference, the HG recall was for the 3.0L V6. It was originally for all years made, from 88-95, until they came out with the 3.4L V6 in 96. At one point they ended the recall for the 88-89 years, and kept it open for 90-95 years, but only if your truck was made before 10/04.

I believe they ended the campaign in 2004, but I had my whole engine torn down on my '91 and rebuilt with al new internals and the block bored, due to an engine knock caused by the head gaskets, and this was with 188K on it and in 10/06. So I guess if you complain enough and get on the phone with Toyota, you can still get it done.
