Sagging rearend

My 1992 DeVille sits real low in the rear. I don't believe my model has the auto leveling control but I'm not 100% sure. Could it be just the shocks gone bad? I thought shocks don't dictate ride height, its the springs that do.

I'm pretty sure your car does have self leveling rear air shocks. If the compressor is bad, or there is some other problem with the system, it will sag. Check that the compressor is working and that there are no leaks in the system. Soapy water works great for finding air leaks!

Well actually I did locate the self leveling system but it was disconnected. So I plugged it back up to see what would happen and it does work. I saw the front end lowering but nothing happened in the rear. The pump just kept running even after it seemed my car wasn't adjusting anymore so I unplugged it so it didn't drain my battery. Think it could be the rear air shocks busted?

How long did it run before you disconnected it? If it just keeps running, and it doesn't level the car, then there is an air leak in either the shocks, the lines, or inside the compressor. Did you check for air leaks using some soapy water spray?

I let it run for almost 2 minutes. As I said, I watched the front end lower itself but nothing happened in the rear. After the front quit moving I let it run a little longer but decided to unplug the motor again before it burned itself out. I'll check for leaks with the soap & water thing next weekend when I'm on leave.

Hey this is still utters09 under my original user name; in regards to fixing my sagging rearend, which I'm thinkin' is the rear air shocks, once I fix the suspension does anyone know if putting lowering springs (1 to 2") will hurt anything?

I'm finally back home on leave now and am about to tackle this problem. After I get the suspension to ride right, I'm seriously thinking about dropping it 1 to 2 inches. Does anyone know the best way to achieve this without messing up the integrity of the soft suspension Caddys are meant to have?

Well I think I found the reason my rearend was sagging! Replaced these with Monroe Sensa-Trac struts, hooked up the auto leveling pump, and now she sits right and rides like a Caddy should. Decided not to lower it, instead think I'm gonna sell it.
