just wondering if I could do this myself...with the right tools, I dont want to mess anything up, havent done a whole lot of work to the G myself, replaced the oxygen sensor, EGR valve, and made and intake for it...but thats all...just wondering, also how much do you all think those would cost to be put in at a shop? thanx.

The water pump is a major PITA. The alternator can be tricky too. Ask anyone who's done a water pump on an SR20DE. There's just a tiny bit more room on a G20 as compared to the 92 SE-R that I had. I've done both. Be prepared to spend 4 hours and scape a lot of skin off your knuckles.

I replaced my water pump a month ago and can attest that there is NO ROOM WHATSOEVER!!! It's a pita to remove the boltes, it's a pita to take the pump out, but that's child's play compared to trying to but the new one back in with all the sealant on it. Me and my friend had to remove the passenger side motor mount and raise the engine a bit (we were using a repair shop :D) and it helped. But be prepared to bleed :)

As for the alternator, it's a walk in the park compared to the water pump.

One more thing - you might want to do both at once as this will mean you won't have to remove some belts twice.

I don't think he'll be replacing anything in his G anymore. He totalled it.

If you check out the Classifieds on here, I believe he's parting out anything worth salvaging.

IF YOU DO DECIDE TO DO THE WATER PUMP YOURSELF, THERE IS NO GASKET, USE SILICON. YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MANY PHONE CALLS I GET FROM PEOPLE LOOKING FOR GASKETS TO THEIR WATER PUMP.
