97 Grand Voyager head scratcherjmcdonaldva 09-25-2007, 10:52 AM A friend has a 97 Grand Voyager SE with a 3.3 liter engine. Several days ago the van began to cut off on him. We ran the codes and were given 12, 32, 54 and 55. Disconnecting the battery and rerunning the codes produced the same results. Long story sort, we replaced the cam position sensor based on the 54 code and the van started right up and ran for about an hour or so with no issues. The next morning the van would not start and there was no code 54. I loosened the sensor and pressed it in just a bit and tried to start it again, it fired right up. He went to go to work this morning and again it will not start. Any ideas? How do you know besides trail and error when the sensor is actually in correctly? RIP 09-25-2007, 07:23 PM The sensor should have had a piece of paper on the tip. This paper acts as a calibration tool to insure the correct gap between the sensor tip and the sensor wheel inside the engine oncew its installed. You should insert the sensor until it just touches then tighten it down. Already did that? Check the tip. It may be damaged. If you didn't get the sensor from the dealer, I recommend you do. They aren't much more expensive and may be the same price. I've read of people going through several non OEM sensors before they get a good one. A little more code 54 info: http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/generic/p0340-camshaft-position-sensor-circuit-malfunction.php jmcdonaldva 09-27-2007, 10:09 AM Thanks for the response. I will check that out. I did install it correctly and for some reason it is starting now so maybe it was a fluke. If it acts up again I will have him buy another sensor from the dealer as you suggested. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
