1983 delta88 no brake lights

just bought an 88 and great car. i can not great the brake lights to work. replaced switch at the pedal, bulbs, and traced the wires. also fuse is good. the tail lights work with headlights on but no brake lights. only thing i can figure is that the steering column (that is all busted up )may have someything to do with it. is there something in the column that controls the brake lights?

they are fixed. dont know how. had to take apart the steering column to fix the turning signals and wiper switch. put the column back together and the brake lights work now. puzzled but happy.
