i was wondering if anyone could help out with this one
my car a 93olds88
is stupid.
i dont know what is causing it
but when i park the car overnight
the battery is dead in the morning
i have a optima red cap its about 3 months old now
new alternator replaced yesterday
i have a cobra radar that shows voltage as the car sits it will lose .1volts every 5-10 minutes
when the car runs
its charging at average
12.8-13.1
according to the radar detector
i have tried the simple stuff
rip out the trunk light thinking the merc switch was bad
disconnected the power wire leading to the back of the trunk
STILL DEAD
sooooooooooooooooooo
tomorrow im going to test with electric tester i was told to disconnect -battery cable
and use the tester to connect ground from cable to terminal i was told that there should only be a reading of 0.2-0.4
if its any higher i need to pull fuses until i find the one the causing the draw
sooo
i was wondering if anyone has any ideas of where i should start tomorrow like what things should i check first

btw the voltage is @ 8.8 in the morning

First your charging voltage is to low. Should be 13.6 to 14.5. Could it be the radar detector being left on ? Use an ampmeter between the battery and cable. Look for less than .050 amp draw(50 miliamps) with everything off. Then pull fuses until the amp draw is below .050.

i tested it today found out that its somthing in my trunk
could be my amps or my cap im not sure whats going on back there
with the power wire hooked up to the trunk its reading a .05 .07
when disconnected it reads a .01
but the voltage reading from the radar detector has always been 12.3-13.3
when siting at a red light at night with ac on max full speed fan headlights and rear defog on the voltage drops to 9.3 eeeeekkkk

what could be causing weak charge like that i just put in yet another napa premium alternator
lifetime warranty

First try a different voltmeter. Maybe yours reads low. If it is still low find an alternator with a larger amp output. I don't know what size you have but they make high output alternators.

i found a super high capacity alternator for about 400$
but its for comp audio
but it shouldn't hurt

My 94 olds 88 would have a dead battery in 2 hours or less. After pulling fuses until the drain stopped, I found it to be in the trunk. I found the power antenea wasn't retracting all the way and it would look as if it were all the way down. It would continue to draw power but wouldn't hit the limit switch. I lubed it up and it works fine. The drain on the battery went away with that fix.

i just spray a rag with a light lube like WD40 or something simmilar and wipe the antenea with the rag. Or you can drizzle a little bit on the antenea mast and let it work its way down into each section. I do this every few months to keep it clean and running smooth. Just wipe off the excess with another clean rag.
