WaterPump Install Breaks Fuel Distrubtor

hi i emailed on here a few times no one writes back

but apparently when i installed the water pump i guess 4 bolts are slightly maybe i guess 1/4" shorter then the normal bolts who would know, but i guess from what i told that it goes into the top the 2 bolts and damages the fuel distrubtor gear by shearing off the gear, like what normal person would know that when putting a pump on, so i guess its like a 2000 dollar repair to have someone on it,

i wanna know is this a design flaw why would 1/4" different bolts matter

and this is on a 93 Diesel E-350 7.3 non turbo engine

I'm not sure about what you are saying. Is it that the bolts are 1/4 inch longer? If so they may be hitting the distributor shaft gear or binding the shaft. I've never heard of such a thing. I hope it dldn't happen to you! Something like that would definately ruin my day.

ya it happened to me i was working on a friends truck, old school bus, what i guess it is is the 2 top bolts are too long like all the short bolts and in amongst those are 4 bolts i guess 1/4" shorter then the rest, and well if u mix them up by u not seeing them and u screw the 2 top bolts in the center in it press's against the distrubtur gear for the fuel injector pump and grinds the key way out or something

apparently the garage we called knew about that when we said we put a new water pump in, but he knew right, apparently its only on 3 types of engines

one is the 7.3 E-350 Ford Dissel Non Turbo
the 6.9 Ford diesel Turbo and some other company engine i forget but who knew pissed me off made me feel bad i fixing truck for friend and it just breaks like that not like the paper work for the new water pump says stop make sure bolts are the really short ones, ud think there be a warning, for people that install it cus who knew for a water pump u can damage it.

I know that I wouldn't notice a 1/4 inch difference on the water pump bolts. They tend to be longish (sic) and that would take away the difference between them even more. Ford tough. Well, I guess tough to work on. I'm glad you got it taken care of . All the best. Dave
