1997 Grand Caravan LE99MBSport 09-15-2007, 07:50 PM I have a 1997 Grand Caravan LE and it won't start. I have a new battery and all the connections seem to be OK, but when I turn the key....NOTHING !!!. Can someone give me a heads up as to what to expect. Is there a starter selenoid somewhere that can be jumped to see if the starter turns over. Thanks for any info. I did a code check and there are NO codes...........thanks in advance. RIP 09-15-2007, 08:07 PM I'll take it when you say "NOTHING", you mean not even a click from the starter. I'll take it for granted dash/parking/healights come on. Things to try: > Jump start it using jumper cables and another running car. If it starts, double check that new battery by getting it load tested. If you didn't, check the battery-to-engine-to chassy ground connections for security/corrosion. Did you check the starter connections? > Tap on the starter (bottom centerish on the engine) as you turn the key. If it starts, have the starter rebuilt or replaced. The solenoid is built into the starter. > Feel the starter relay (fuse box next to battery) for a "click" as you turn the key. If it clicks, look towards the starter or wire harness to it. If it doen't click and all else is good, look towards the neutral start switch and/or ignition switch. > Wiggle the gearshift as you turn the key. The neutral start switch could be misadjusted/corrorded/loose. Here's the voltage path: battery/ignition switch/park neutral safety switch/starter relay/starter (and solenoid). You can "hotwire" the battery directly to the starter to eliminate the starter. 99MBSport 09-15-2007, 08:21 PM I will try the way that you described.I'll let you know what happens. Thanks 99MBSport 10-04-2007, 07:54 PM I will try the way that you described.I'll let you know what happens. ThanksWell the van is now at the repair shop. It's either the BCM or the ECM. I'm getting NO voltage from the ECM behind the battery. There is voltage going in BUT nothing on the outward side. I suspect the ECM is gonner....anybody got ideas !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
