1989 cadillac

I am putting a used engine and transmission into a 1989 cadillac deville and i almost have it all together. I went on to connect the battery and the car tried to turn over, the key was on the dash:screwy: . Does anyone have an idea of what went wrong????Please help.

Welcome to AF. Somehow the solenoid is getting 12v power, check it out, just basics.

As MW noted, the solenoid is getting power when it should not. Check the solenoid wiring and verify that two wires are not switched.
