In March the water pump in my car went out, the timing belt broke, i had to replace the rods because they were bent, i bought a new head gasket, and replaced the rest of my belts in my car.
I had a friend who went to school to be a mechanic, do the work on my car.

Now, I notice white smoke coming from the hood( not all the time but every once in awhile, and a burning smell ( most of the time my car is on). All my fluids are full, and it isn't overheating.

Could someone tell me if I am looking at another possible engine problem? Thank you for replying

Have a close look at the coolant recovery bottle and the hose connecting it to the cooling system. The while smoke could be just water vapor. When you did the head work, did you replace the hoses that run to the heater? Mine is a 97. It has a pair of metal tubes that run under the intake manifold. At one end of these there are hoses running to the heater connections on the firewall. At the other end - the end next to the water pump - there are short pieces of rubber hose. Could they be leaking? They arent easy to see or reach on mine. I replaced them when I had the motor out.

Are you sure you replaced the rods or was it the valves?
