4.3 v6 to 6.0 swap 1999 c1500 Silverado mbumgua 09-05-2007, 01:40 AM
Need some advice or maybe just opinions on a swap. I bought a rolled 2002 C2500HD extended cab short bed with 6.0 and automatic for the engine and tranny to swap into my 99 c1500 ext cab short bed 5 speed 4.3 v6(168,000 miles on v-6 still running good but not trailer pulling material). The HD has no unbent body parts but all running gear is good, frame straight and front and rear axles/a-arms unbent. I am considering just swapping my 99 body onto the 02 frame and running gear to get all benefits from the 2500HD. What I am trying to decide is whether or not this is a good idea or should I go with original idea and swap engine and tranny only. (I swapped a 99 5.3 into my brothers 02 v-6 truck back in July-took 3 days--had entire wrecked 99 to work with.-makes it lots easier; so I do have capability to do either option. Thanks for any comments or suggestions! mbumgua 09-07-2007, 06:32 PM Anybody out there? silverado122775 09-07-2007, 07:35 PM It's friday.. not many people on right now. I think everybody is partying :) I do not have enough knowledge on body swapping, but I do know you can swap the engine.. maybe easier to do that anyways. mbumgua 09-09-2007, 08:16 PM Hey thanks for the reply--The question has resolved itself--The wrecked HD truck has an 8 foot bed so I will be swapping engine tranny and whatever else I can--Rear end and front spindles etc. Thanks again. silverado122775 09-10-2007, 08:47 AM no problem.. I am glad you were able to get it figured out sinfull90 11-06-2007, 10:53 AM i did exactly that in a 00. i bought a donor motor out of a rolled over 05 escalade (LQ9 6.0l). i have my 4l60e still bolted up to it but it has cost a bunch of money to keep it together. i kept the 60 over the 80 because i didn't want the hassel of trying to build crossmembers to fit the 80 in. i hope you realise you need a tonne of cash to do this... is seems cheap, and may be cheaper than some conversions, but it's not really. i ended up buying a stand alone wiring harness to get around the wiring delema. the 4.3l was a return style fuel system and the 6l is a deadhead style fuel system, so i bought a fuel pressure regulator from AEM in, it's kinda nice to play with fuel pressure. i could go on forever on how it went, what i ran into for problems but over all i'm glad i did the swap... it's still a project, not done with the truck yet but it snaps around real nice, i eat diesels with my baby... i posted my swap on here, should be under 4.3 to 6.0l swap or something likethat... lemme know how the swap goes and i'll answer any questions you have... you will have lots i'm sure. hey what are you doin with the front diff out of the 2500? i'll buy it off ya if you wanna sell it. anywho, giver hell and don't let fear and common sense get in yer way! vortecman 11-07-2007, 06:13 PM why wasnt an ls1 ever put into these trucks stock? imagine: ls1 w/ t56 in a 2wd singlecab 1500. would've been a better SS Silverado than what we got now... Sonny01 11-07-2007, 08:51 PM You mean like a Ford Lightning...I think their exhaust sounds good but like most things Ford they don't go anywhere fast. vortecman 11-07-2007, 09:41 PM You mean like a Ford Lightning...I think their exhaust sounds good but like most things Ford they don't go anywhere fast. well....no. but sure! supercharge that LS1!! but with gas $4/gallon next year... i'll be drivin a miata :frown: silverado122775 11-08-2007, 11:27 AM I do not think you can supercharge a LS1 with an already high compression. You could blow the piston and rings. I am not a Ford guy by any means, but those Ford Lightening's are very fast. They can beat our SS hands down. Which is sad :( But it would be nice if they put a LS1 or the new LS7 in the SS. Chevy is talking about putting the 427 back in. rjeffery 11-08-2007, 06:09 PM Or wait until GM puts the new 4.5 Duramax in the 1500s in 09. With a little tweaking that truck should run like a raped ape. vortecman 11-08-2007, 07:34 PM i dont know much about compression and that stuff... but i do know i've driven my buddie's supercharged 2002 trans am. and that was a good day.:grinyes: mbumgua 11-14-2007, 09:32 AM Sinful90--Since I last posted I picked up the wrecked truck and I have decided to transfer the cab and front clip from my truck to the frame of the wrecked truck. That way I get the 2500HD frame and running gear and use the wiring, exhaust and fuel system as well. Unfortunately it is a two wheel drive. It has torsion bars in the front and looks like the same front end as my dads 2500 minus the differential and cv axles. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
