This might seem like a silly question, but why is there no redline on the RPM gauge in my 2004 Silverado 4.8 ?

I mean, I don't usually use the truck with revs that high, it's more of a technical question more than anything! :)

Good question. Maybe you can find some specs on the engine in your manual.

I would have thought there's no redline on the tach because the standard shift points are all well below the "real" redline of the engine. I just would like to hear other's opinions - there's a lot of knowledge on here! :)

This begs the question, does flooring the truck hurt it that much?
What about WOT starts and such? Providing it's warmed up, etc...

Well. if you have a automatic.. there is no need for the redline.. If it's manual. I would say the redline is at 5500 - 6000. That is what my 2000 5.3 shows.
