91 Regal GS 3.8 no sparkmotocip 09-03-2007, 12:00 PM My car will not start or even fire. Checked for spark and there is none. I swapped out the ignition module with another car I own and it works fine. I have a factory shop manual and some skill in troubleshooting but I have gone as far as I can. My fuel pump was replaced about 1 year ago and I can hear it build pressure, (problem is not fuel related at this time). I took a chance and replaced the crank sensor after reading some posts but that did not work so here is what I know. The book says to check for service engine light and it works fine. I then jumped two terminals at the service port and the check engine light flashes code 12 which is what you want it to do. I then pulled all the injector wire harness connections and turned the key in the run position and used a test light. The test light comes on and stays on steady, the book says it should not. The book further states when you crank the motor, the light should pulsate and it does not. I disconnected the Gray connector at the ECM and the light should go out if the ECM is bad and it did not. The book says I have a bad ground in the injector circuit. I checked the wire harness from the connectors to the ECM Gray connector and all is fine. What should I do next. I am tempted to put in a cam sensor on a gamble but hate to guess. The car ran perfect until I parked it. It has been sitting in my garage for about 3 weeks now and will not start, it has 156,000 miles on it. Any help would be appreciated. richtazz 09-04-2007, 06:45 AM Are you saying you're getting no injector pulse or spark signal or neither? You need to do a fuel pressure test. Just because the fuel pump turns on doesn't mean it's producing enough pressure to allow the injectors to spray. motocip 09-04-2007, 07:59 AM Correct, no injector pulse, did not check for spark signal but will check it today. I feel comfident it is not fuel related. Fuel pressure, as far as I know, would not produce a no spark situation. Thanks for your input. richtazz 09-04-2007, 11:24 AM Since it's a GS, I will assume you have the 3800 engine. Try unplugging one injector at a time and see if you get injector pulse back. It is possible that one injector is dead shorted, and is causing the loss of injector pulse signal. motocip 09-18-2007, 08:57 AM I took it to my local garage and found the problem. The mechanic stated he went ahead and replaced the crank position sensor but was still getting a weak signal. Mechanic stated he worked on car most of the day and could not figure out the problem. Next day he discovered the ignition module had a poor ground to the mounting plate beneath it, it must have corroded while I had the car parked in the garage for 3 weeks. My bill was $238.00, I thought it was very reasonable. Good example of how things start going wrong with a car when it sits. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
