97 blazer 4.3ltr acceleration noise

My blazer has a loud ticking when accelerating, like a bad/loose plug wire, but I checked and they are all ok. Checking under the hood, it sounds like the ticking is coming from the fan area. This problem started just before my fuel pump went out. I replaced the pump and fuel filter last week and the blazer runs fine except for the very annoying tick.

does the noise change pitch or speed with increased engine speed? and does it do it all at idle?

Thanks for the quick reply to my problem.

There wasn't a pitch change, but the speed of the click did increase with more pedal. It didn't click at all when idling. I took the blazer to the Chevy dealer yesterday to have the radiator flushed and they checked it out and replaced the serpentine belt tensioner. Problem solved. I bought the blazer a couple of months ago from my buddy and he had just replaced the tensioner about 3 months ago, while attempting to get rid of a squeek. He bought an GM OEM tensioner from a dealer, I guess it was just a bad part.

The Chevy dealer said he also noticed the hard to start condition, but since I needed the blazer back he didn't have time to check it out. He said it might be a leaking fuel injector. After the fuel pump pressurizes, the Blazer will start for about 1 second and die. I have to turn it off, repressurize the pump and then hold the ignition on for about 3 seconds before it starts

Yea , I had that problem. I did not find it fast enough. It fell apart and left me walking. That one belt design doesn't leave much room for error.

I have heard of this "tick" on my own vehical as well as numerous others. The shop thought is was the lifters, but my experience was worse. The dam rod bearing went on the # 3 cyl. This is a common problem that when looked into I found. These motors are usually bullet proof but I have had little luck! I hope this is not your problem. Has anyone else heard of this problem?

odd indeed, as that is the first ive heard of that. however im sure some of the guys here that are GM service techs could provide some light on that.

my 95 S-10 4.3L CPI has 175,000 on it now and the only things that has gone bad on it were a crank sensor (3,600 miles), plug wire (60,000) and the alternator (173,600). Its been damn good, but i know im spoiled now, cause i'll probably never have another one that good, although i sure hope so.
