i own a 97 gtp and seem to be having a lot of trouble with the btsi... this happened in april 07 and my key locked in & all that jazz... i tore it apart trying to figure it out but eventually brought it in and they replaced the fuse and it worked until today, now i have the same problem, fuse again or what?... any help? :banghead:

Check the BTSI fuse again. 12 volts from the fuse feeds to the stop lamp switch and then to the shift interlock solenoid in the center console and the transmission range switch. To blow the fuse you are getting higher than normal current in the circuits indicating a short circuit condition. Have you ever spilled soda or coffee on the center console?

Ok, that's what i thought... i looked into that already and there was a spill but the shift assembly has been cleaned since then as well as everything around it...

Doesn't sound good. Possible the prior spill damaged the shift interlock solenoid aka BTSI solenoid. Problem is the solenoid is part of the complete shifter assembly and in most cases the complete shifter will need to be replaced. You can try getting a used/pull part since new will be expensive.

BTW - How was the fuse?

ok last time this happened a fuse under the hood but idk which one... car doesnt start... doesnt do anything and has no electrical power... same as before... any idea which fuse?

Nothing at the dash either? Was the battery tested? How about the positive and negative cables and the battery terminals? In the engine compartment fuse box it could be any fuse associated with IGN Main or BATT Main, etc. You may have to pull any relevant fuse and check to see which one may be blown.

no power at all.. yea last time this happened i had to get a new battery so this one is brand new as of july 1st... i just looked at the fuse box and one of the fuel pump fuses had one of the 5 prongs bent out??? any reason for that? i couldn't get the batt fuse out but i looked at the ign main and it looked ok however i wouldn't know what to look for besides it being broken? sorry but i have very little car knowledge but im trying to learn

Bad fuel pump resistor. Do a search for fuel pump resistor.

ok heres the lastest... i replaced the fuel pump, car starts right up & runs fine, but when i shut it off the key sometimes still gets locked in... ???

The bent prong on the fuel pump relay is a trick to bypass the resistor. Your GTP has a 2-speed fuel pump, and by-passing the resistor will put it in hi-speed mode all the time. This can cause fuel delivery issues at low boost, and premature failure of the pump assembly over time. The resistor is located behind the passenger side headlamp in the fender area. I would strongly suggest fixing that issue to avoid problems down the road.

The fuel pump issue is unrelated to the key sticking problem. This is either a bad electrical connection issue or bad BTSI as bnaylor stated.
