flex fuel fuel filter

Howdy, I have a 99 and haven't had any luck getting off the old filter, tried a couple of those 5/16 disconnect tools and no luck. Freind borrowed me his for a 99 explorer and also bought one at auto zone, but niethr did the trick. any tips appreciated

Cut ends with hacksaw, then you'll have more access to the fittings, to see whats going on.

I thought about that, but I figured an old filter is better than no filter. Will try thanks
