Last night at about 1:30am I was coming home and decided to get some gas. I was driving along, slowing down about to turn into gas station. There was a car in front of me, a Caddy, and then there was a Camero z28 next to me that I burned all over the expressway (don't ask, I don't know neither). He honked, I glanced, and the guy in front decided to come to a complete stop in the street. I slammed the brakes, and well the pics show the rest. I'm pissed.

No one was hurt. The Caddy barely had any damage. The bumper was a little dented and his taillight was moved a little, but he popped it back into place. He was telling me I should leave and just take off and not file a report or anything in "my condition". He said I was on some stuff... ya no. I was sober 100%. So I called the cops and did everything I had to.

My car I was able to drive home since it was kinda close to me. Took side streets. As soon as I hit steam was all over from coolant. I made it home after my parents decided to come out and follow me home. Car runs fine, shifts great, everything. Just smoking badly from the coolant.

Today I pryed the hood off with a crowbar and checked out the damage.
-New headlights: Trashed :frown:
-Radiator: Needs replacement
-A/C Core: Needs replacement (Not going to happen, pulling whole system)
-Fans: Passenger side is destroyed by the header
-Hood: Destroyed (Getting CF hood soon anyways!)
-Engine: Sprayed with coolant, but no damage :sunglasse
-Front brace: Bent out of shape. Pushed in about 2 inches.
-Airbags: Undeployed
-Fenders: Passenger side Bent at light. Fixable. Needs paint.
-Outer Bumper: Cracked, scratched, going to be replaced.

So basically, the front main brace was pushed in about 2 inches. Pushed my AC core and radiator into header. I'm going to rip the bumper off tomorrow and bring it all down to the frame to see all the damage, but it doesn't look too too bad. I got lucky. The car went under the Caddy. The engine is untouched except for the header, but still solid and intact. Again, I'll see everything in detail tomorrow.

It does all look fixable, and I will do all the work myself. Glad I didn't have a FMIC. That would have done damage. So car is out of commission for a couple weeks. It could have been worse.

I just hope there's no lawsuits or anything from this. No one got a ticket neither thank god. Oh, and I'm looking for parts now too FYI. I got a hood and stock headlights.

Top tabs are broken. I believe the side screws are messed up also. Plastic covering on drivers side is cracked and scuffed. Passenger side black housing is cracked on the inside. I'm pretty sure they won't take much to fix. You really want them?

And it's staying 95-96. Keeping it authentic and real. lol.

I would want to know why the fuck the Caddy just stopped in the middle of the street for no reason. Glad everything is fixable though...sounds like this shouldn't cost you more than a few hundred $$$ which is pretty fortunate for a decent sized accident like this.

All I have on this car is liability. I'm cheap ;)
But look at it this way... I save $500 a year by not having collision, and they would want a $500 deductible to fix it. Pricing things yesterday, all stock OEM parts total are going to be around $500 or so. Of course I'm going to upgrade where I can, but I'm still looking at no more than $800 probably.

I'm not sure why the caddy stopped neither. There was no one in front of him turning in. And I don't believe that no one was blocking the entrance into to gas station. It doesn't really matter. It doesn't change anything.

And some more pics of me stripping it down this morning. Just have to drain A/C what's left in there and then ordering parts this week. Going to get towed to body shop for a new front frame piece, and then back to me to finish it up.

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g291/david-b/P8260118Custom.jpg

EDIT: Oh, the only damage to the engine... just a little dent on the header where the fan decided to get pushed into and shatter to millions of pieces. NO ENGINE WORK NEEDED!!

I think a little piece of me just died... :(

JP, ha ha. Seriously though, I love your car and it sucks that it got effed up. I second the Brian suggestion, time to update! I think the 97+ Eclipse bumpers are pretty righteous but I would get a 97+ Talon bumper if I were you.

david-b
08-26-2007, 04:36 PM
See the thing is, I'm keeping it a Talon. I love the 97-99 Eclipse fronts too, but it's staying a Talon, and I'm not a huge fan of the 97-98 Talon front. The emblem is too big, and it has the little lip pieces going up the sides, which only fits if they're on the whole car. I'm trying to keep it authentic to a 95-96 Talon.

My next question is with taking out the AC. I have to remove all the lines, but how do I close it all up? I'm not sure where exactly everything goes inside the car. I don't have to take the dash off do I? The core is completely shot, so I'm not even buying a new one. Just going to strip down, but how? Suggestions?

Removing the lines is very easy, unbolt the lines from the compressor. Follow them to the firewall. Unbolt them from the firewall, follow them down to the cooling radiator (or whatever its called) unbolt them from there, and unbolt the radiator and take it out. Then unbolt/cut all the little ties or taps holding the lines to the frame. I had my ac out in under 30 mines on my car, but then again, it was a 90 Eclipse. But the concept is the same.

I pulled the AC out and it's all good. Just have to take the compressor out this week. With the core gone, the compressor looks like a piece of cake. I can't wait to get this thing done. I miss her already. And she's going to run better and look more awesome than before.

Kinda turning into a blog here. lol. Got the AC completely out and down to the frame. Just waiting for some money to go over, and then I start buying things. Will be buying new front frame on saturday.

Damn man that sucks. There's nothing I hate worse than an injured DSM. Hell at least there was no engine or driver damage. This isn't going to get in the way of your turbo upgrade is it?

You'll have it back on the road in no time. Look on the bright side, if you're going to put a FMIC on, without A/C and a new radiator, you shouldn't have to worry about running hot on those lovely triple digit days.

I know the feeling bud. I got rear ended by a jeep cherokee :banghead:. Had to have my rear bumper and such replaced. I am just glad that you are ok. Cars can be fixed or replaced, people can't.
Hope all goes well from here.

damn you are one ugly SOB :-D. sorry had to say it :-P anywayz are you going back to the oem CF hood or a diffrent one. You need to get on aim more every time i get one your not on...fucker. but yea wish you woulda done this about a month ago before i buried that old parts eclipse the front radiator support was still in good shape you could had it.

david-b
08-29-2007, 03:19 PM
Ordered some parts today. New Koyo radiator, front radiator support, & those same headlights (because we loved them so much), and then that little metal brace on top of the bumper. Then I just need all little nuts and bolts and stuff like that.

Frame is being picked up on saturday. Then taken to a shop probably next week or so. That's the biggest part. After that it'll all fall into place.

All the splash shields can be bent back into place easily. No problems there. Still don't know what I'm doing with the passenger fender yet. Gonig to try to bend back first. If bad, then buy replacement.

This does put a hold on the turbo/engine build. All this money was saved for that build and then some.

Got new gauges in yesterday, going to start installing tonight. I said I was gonig to make it look good, plus I ordered them before the accident.

My insurnace is staying the same. Since I don't have collision, they're like, thanks for reporting it, we'll let you know if the other guy makes a move. And that was it. There were no tickets against me so I got away good.

david-b
09-07-2007, 12:09 AM
-Installed new gauges all around
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g291/david-b/P9020148Custom.jpg
EGT, AF, Fuel, Volts, & Oil Pressure. Should be good for now.
-Got almost all of my pieces in and ready to go. Aluminum radiator looks nice.
-Being towed to a shop next Wednesday for the frame to be put on. Going to get put on and painted. Should be done by next Saturday and towed back to my garage. Then just have to install everything else.
-Need to get bumper painted and hood resealed.
-Taking header to get bung welded for EGT probe.
-Still don't know what to do about fender. Taking to shop on Wednesday for them to look at. Probably just bent it back out and get painted.

So so far, everything is going well and on time. Should be done by the time I want. Bumper may not be painted, but we'll see. I won't post any outside pics until she's all done.

Update as of today.

Car was taken to the shop yesterday. Trying someplace new. Randomly picked it, and it looks goood. HUGE 2 story building with many car lifts inside to go to the second floor and all. I counted 3 big paint booths. My buddy actually takes his cars there for body work and I didn't know that at the time.

They quoted me around $620 to take the old radiator frame off and put the new one on. They measured the whole frame, and the passengerside was pushed in VERY VERY little, but that have to fix that. They're also gonig to re-shape the passengerside fender, no paint per my request. Seems kinda high to me, but this is a very reputible shop. MAY be done by saturday, if not though, early next week. Then it'll get towed home, and I take care of the rest.

SilvrEclipse
09-13-2007, 08:19 PM
That might not be to bad depending on how much work they have to do. Its not cheap to get a frame straightened. Im sure you could get it down a little cheap but I would rather a good shop do it that knows what they are doing than to pay someone $300-$400 to not get it just right and the cars drives like shit.

2 FLOORS?! That shit is bananas.

david-b
09-13-2007, 09:38 PM
Dude you should see it. It's massive in there. When my car was brought in, there was an SUV coming down on a huge car elevator thing. It's HUGE!! They had a section with just bumpers in there on the second floor. All lined up and on shelves and all. Damn. And there was like 20+ people working there too.

Ya there it is. It's the one on the right side of Pulaski. Those are pretty good size house right behind it too. It takes up like the whole block. I'll try to get some inside pics next time I'm there if I can. If you look at the farthest east (right) side of the building, there's a little piece sticking out and the parking lot right behind it. Above that little nub (north) is the big-ass ramp that they backed up car up there with the tow truck. Scraped my muffler off the ground.

I got the car back last night. Was supposed to be done last Saturday, but "the paint-booths were full." Total came to $630 for slight passenger-side frame straighten, weld on new radiator support, and pound out passenger-side fender. Also included paint/reseal the whole front after welded to prevent rust. It was mostly all labor. Actually it was all labor. It looks really good though. Clean welds, smooth paint (that was still wet last night when I got it home) and nothing else was messed up. They hand washed the rest of the car too while it was there.

I started putting back together last night, but paint was still wet and there were too many mosquitos out so I'm doing it Friday since I'm off. I hope to have it all together by then too. Just need small stuff, like screws, nuts, bolts, lower radiator hose (needed replacing so why not) and just have to retap some holes. All in all, should go pretty quickly. May have to bend some other parts alittle more back into shape, like some supports. Will be running on FRIDAY though, 11 days before my expected completetion date. I'm excited.

True that. When I got the tranny done it took like a week longer that it was supposed to. Things "just happen" to come up. Here they said the paint booths were full which I do believe because it was full of cars. But mine was an easy job and I was told it was gonig to be done. Shoulda been taken care of earlier then.

The 4g63 motors sit opposite directions than the 420a. Just a different setup with the N/T compared to the turbo setup.
