starter problems!!!!!!!!

how do i take out my starter?!!?!?!??!?! i feel freakin retarded but i just don't wanna mess anything up. i unbolted it but it just won't come out do i habe to remove the header on the right side? I have no idea what to do. :banghead:

Most of the time you can move the starter around like a jig saw puzzle and find a way to remove it. Year, make and model would help.

Its The 1983 S-10 But What I Might Do Is Just Take It Off Of The Right Engine Mount And Crank It Up Like An Inch Or Two.

First thing unhook the battery neg cabel.
Also remove the transmission splash cover for more clearance.

I have a starter problem. I got a direct drive starter and pulled out a different looking starter the one i took out the body is smaller is there a difference between the 2 starters and can I use the bigger one ?

Better to start a new post/thread on your problem.
Gives us your year and engine size.
If the starter you removed was the oem starter setup it is better to stay with the OEN type starter.
Newer cars and trucks are using smaller starters.

I am not able to post new threads yet it is a 1990 s-10 blazer 4x4 4.3 5 speed there is 2 kinds of starters a gear reduction and a direct drive I dont know if it matters what starter they should both work

I have not run to a gear reduction starter on them.
Just little and big ones
If you are unsure of what the correct starter it takes have your dealer run the vin no.

Most parts place have brand new not rebuilts.
I would check out a new one and a good parts place should have a application guide for the correct starter.

AN EASY WAY TO TAKE IT OUT IS TO TAKE THE PASS. WHEEL OUT. THAT WAY YOU CAN GET TO THE WIRES EASIER, AND YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET MORE THAN A FINGER IN THERE TO WRIGGLE IT OUT. BEST WAY I FOUND IS TO UNDO THE HOLD DOWN BOLTS, THEN THE WIRES, THEN LIFT THE FRONT END OF THE STARTER AND PUSH IT TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE CARKEEP IT UP UNTIL THE REAR IS CLEAR OF THE BELL HOUSING, THEN SET IT DOWN(DON'T DROP IT) BY MOVING THE METAL TUBING LINES THAT HOLD IT UP THERE. IT SHOULD JUST PLOP RIGHT OUT. INSTALLATION IS THE REVERSE OF REMOVAL (LOL)
