Are you serious? Who would leave a McLaren sitting for 3 weeks? They don't deserve to have the car.

Sorry for the slow response, I do know of several cars in the Florida area. It could be one of 3 cars.

For me to be certain of whose car it is, when were the pictures taken and what city? I would guess that the picture of the gentleman next to the car would be you or a friend posing by the car. Am I correct?

I will post what I find.

That car is from Sarasota, there is an owner there who has 2 of them, both silver I believe. One of the cars was for sale in DuPont a few years back. I can't remember his name. What street is that on ? I would love to personally go take a look at such a work of art in such a poor situation.

that's in sarasota, license plate... shit almost makes me wanna go drive and find it...that's a million dollar car, who the fuck is that stupid? you dont park that shit outside...and on an open street? wtf!!

hmmm, odd that it would be out there for so long. Also, look at the bacground, the car is worth more than the block! I got family in Sarasota, wonder if the guy lives near them????

This is a total anomaly, I live about 35 minutes from sarasota, I go there frequently to party! :) and I'll tell you what, I'm not a thief, but i'd be half tempted to try on that one :)

Yes, something is very fishy about that situation... either three weeks was an exaggeration, its a joyride victim, or part of a car theft sting operation. Or not:o

lol, agree with you arichards. Who the heck would park something that expensive out on the open streets?? I would be tempted on taking that car myself if i lived near. J/K would be hard to hide a Mclaren F1 and get away with it

An update on the Mystery McLaren.

Gentleman. I have resolved the mystery as to who owns the car, but alas, no resolution as to why he would leave the car on the street for over a month.

The particular car was previously wrecked and badly damaged out in California about two years ago. The car was returned to the factory and was restored. The car still resides with the same owner. That gentleman, however, lives in California. I have not yet determined why the car was in Florida or why is was left. If I receive any additional information, I will gladly post.

Being parked on the street and as dirty as it is really makes this car look like its worth $30,000 not a million. Geezz I hope there's a really good explaination for it being parked on the street, it should at least be in the driveway. If I had the money this is one mclaren i would never buy, wrecked plus sitting on the street, don't think this one has been taken very good care of. I guess this guy's just so rich it's just another car to him, I don't think he deserves to have this car if this is how he treats it.

The owner should be shot and the car should be given to someone who would care for it like it should be, like me. :D

Would this be Elon Musk's?

The attached photo is a shot of him and his F1 taken during an interview for Salon.com in August 1999. I later read that the Spring of 2000 he wrecked his F1 while traveling with the CEO of PayPal on board in the Silicon Valley. The car was then sent back to the factory for a full repair of the damage.

Sure sounds like it.

Incidentally, upon closer inspection of those pictures it seems that although the F1 wears a Sarasota, FL license plate, that these pictures were still taken in Northern California.

In the shot of the F1 interior through the glass side window, note that the license plate placard on the Audi in front of it reads "PALO ALTO CARLSON". I did a quick web search and Carlson Audi is indeed located in Palo Alto, CA.

By the way - these photos originally came from someone's Webshots.com photo album. I guess if someone really wanted to they could track down the photographer through that site.

The photographer is a member of the bmwm5.com message board.

Cool - I found those photos at Webshots sometime last year.

Was there any more to the story at BMWM5.com or does the photographer's location jive with my speculation that these were indeed taken near the Silicon Valley where Musk is a 30-something '.com CEO' ?

Very Interesting. This dude must be one rich MO FO to just leave that 1 million dollar car outside as long as he did and not worry too much about it.

I want my own internet business.

Heck yeah. With that kind of money I'd spend it to get me into nascar racing first. Then a Mclaren will come....:)

This is one of Gerd Petriks cars. GP brought in two Amerispec F1s. Both sold. This car is 067 I believe. Or 045.
Musk wrecked it in 1999 shortly after buying it.
Lauren has two as well, but they are not for sale. There are approximately 20 F1s in the US.
Leno
Selldorf (3)
Lauren (2)
Blair (xp4)
Ellison
Wycleff Jean
Chambers
Petrik (originally, two cars)
TX car
AZ car (for sale)
one later car, converted to LM spec.

This thread taught me one thing:

People in Maclaren F1 are very resourceful, especially with the internet. I bet you could find out who I am and what I am doing right now...
Not that you would care... lol

"Frank Selldorff
Chairman & CEO, SSI Group, Inc.

Frank Selldorff is co-founder and co-CEO of Reach, the Boston-based Internet incubator that provided BrandMuscle's seed funding. In 1992, Frank founded Breakaway Solutions (NASDAQ: BWAY), a full service internet provider for eBusinesses, and served as its Chairman, President and CEO through 1998. Under his direction, the company was recognized as one of the nation's fastest growing technology companies, ranking #73 on the 1998 INC 500 and Deloitte and Touche's Fast 50/500 from 1996-1998. Before Breakaway, Frank held senior technology positions with Fidelity, BankBoston, Atlantic Data Services and Arthur D. Little. In addition, Frank serves as an advisor to The BIT Group, Granitar, Inofin, and TurnerMotorSport. He is also a member of the private investment group CommonAngels and is a board member of the National Foundation For Teaching Entrepreneurs (NFTE/New England), an organization devoted to fostering creativity and entrepreneurship in inner-city schools."

That's one of the things he does. More research will reveal that he has his hands in lots of other companies. In his free time he likes to race cars though - in the Speedvision World Challenge series driving a Turner Motorsports prepped BMW 3-Series and also in the Panoz Racing series one year.

And doesn't hilfiger have one?

The former CEO of Tommy Hilfiger does. His name is Lawrence Strohl and he also owns 'Le Circuit de Mont Tremblant" in Canada where he recently spent several million dollars having the track rebuilt to bring it up to FIA spec. Not a bad playground for a McLaren F1 owner, I would suppose.

Musk moved from the Bay Area (near San Francisco, CA) to Los Angeles, CA and now has a home in Bel Air, a very wealthy area of homes just above Beverly Hills, CA. He keeps the F1 there and it has been seen multiple times on the roads of LA - including once by me :bigthumb: - but it's no longer covered in leaves. ;)
