What do you think? Bad on my engine to tow a heavy 5x7, 5x8 trailer with a 400lb quad on it? trailers got a metal/steel floor, steel frame obviously, wooden sides...
think tis bad on my engine? i ride in a 97 dodge neon

hehe, might be better to trail the neon with the quad. :D jk. idk tho, i figure its not too bad..if it doesnt exceed the towing limit on the neon. if you gotta do it, get oil cooler, trans coolers...and hope your brakes can stop everything.

You will be putting more strain on the transmission and creating more heat, therefore a transmission cooler would be ideal to keep your tranny in good condition.

It's about a $40-$60 part from Summit or your local auto parts store and is a great investment if you have an auto tranny anyway.

so u guys think its ok as long as i get the tran cooler and or oil cooler?

cheaper to just buy the right size ball for my moms truck and just use that to pull it...the tran cooler though is soundin good just to keep my car in good condition. ae neons known for the tranny going? if so at around what mileage? any idea guys? thanks sooo much

i googled it for ya. Performance
Acceleration (0-60 mph): 8.3 sec. Braking Distance (60-0 mph): 145 ft.
Road Holding Index: .82 g Base Number of Cylinders: 4
Base Engine Size: 2 liters Base Engine Type: Inline 4
Horsepower: 132 hp Max Horsepower: 6000 rpm
Torque: 129 ft-lbs. Max Torque: 5000 rpm
Maximum Towing Capacity: 1000 lbs. Drive Type: FWD
Turning Circle: 35.4 ft.

so as long as your trailer aint 600 lbs you should be alright. i think its not so much for the power, its more so the brakes.. so just be sure you get good brakes too.

also, towing is always bad for your car.. so dont expect it to live as long as it would w.o the towing, change oil regularly..and the trans + oil cooler should help a lot.

ive been told (idk if its true) every 5 degrees you can keep a transmission cooler, you get ~a year more of reliability.

d*mn thanks alot!!!

i think ill spend the 10 bucks on another ball and start using my moms truck to tow it, itll be alot easier on her ford explorer than my car

not even sure what the trailer weights actually...i know that thing is up there though, cuz its pretty hard to lug around by hand on and off the car.

The auto tranny has a reputation for being bulletproof and pretty much is. Just take care of it and do the fluid/filter changes at the specified intervals.

if you have a tow bar you will be fine, as long as you have a light trailer. mine has a class 2 hitch i welded on, and i towed a pretty big trailer with it. make sure your struts are good though. also i have a 5 speed, an automatic would take forever to get moving.
