1999 Yukon won't start - starter replacedskiburban 08-17-2007, 06:44 PM New Thread - same problem. I hit the starter and loud clicking sound, no start - all lights go out - clock on radio resets to 1:00. When I turn the key off and back on, the lights come back on. It seems like a circuit breaker is tripping and then resetting itself. Since there is no circuit breaker on the starting circuit, is it possible for a starter relay or other ignition problem to trip the interior courtesy lights circuit breaker. Tomorrow I'm going to check the voltage at the starter - I didn't have a helper tonight so I couldn't check it with the key in the start position. Other possibilities for problems (but I find it hard to believe they go bad that often - someone enlighten me if I'm wrong) crankshaft position sensor, or the neutral safety switch. Battery cables are tight and clean at the battery - I just replaced the starter thinking it was bad, but have the same problems as before I replaced it. Anyone have any thoughts. Thanks for your help. maxwedge 08-17-2007, 07:31 PM I'd be looking at ground or cable connections first. Have some one try and start the truck and check the voltage at the main distribution junction. Z15 08-18-2007, 11:18 AM Bad Battery is my suspicion. If its more than 3 yrs old, it could be that. Has enough reserve power to power lights but not enough to start. Try this, turn on the head lights, then try to start it. If the lights go out completely (not just dim slightly) and it clicks, then I would suspect the battery is bad and won't hold a charge. Could be that simple. Many major auto parts stores can check your battery for free, same with starters and other electical devices. Save you from buying parts you don't need. skiburban 08-21-2007, 09:56 AM Problem fixed - it was a loose positive battery cable. Wow do I feel stupid. The worst part was that I was so sure that it was the starter, that I changed the starter in the Publix parking lot (where it quit) late one night last week. I could've saved myself a lot of time, money, and trouble had I checked the simple things first. maxwedge 08-21-2007, 04:50 PM Correct, cables first! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
