Hey!

Has anyone out there ever put a 5.3L in place of a 350 TBI? Is this doable? We also need to know what all we are going to need to do the job. The truck the newer engine will be going into is a 88 GMC 1500 2wd. Please let me know if you can help us.

Welcome to the forum. You have a lot of work in head of you. You are going to need all of the wiring, ecm, sensors, fuel injection, fuel pump, etc. The transmission on the newer truck w/ the 5.3 is electronicly controled, probabley want the transmission from the newer truck. There is a lot to this, its not like the old days when as long as everything bolts up you can make it work. Even with all of the sensors, ecm, etc. you still may not get the guages to work.

I read heard that you can buy a wiring harness adapted for this engine exchange so that the gauges will work. Have you heard of this?
