4WD switch question

Hello,

I have a 2002 Trailblazer LTZ. The lights on my 4wd selector switch are out. About a year ago I had a problem where all 4 lights would flash or stay on and it would not go into 4WD, and after searching on the internet, tried to pull the fuse for the ETC (#23 I think) and this solved the problem. Every now and then if you start the vehicle and shift too fast into drive the lights will flash until you turn the vehicle off, re-start it, and shift it slower into drive. This weekend my lights on the switch all went completely out, with the vehicle stuck in 2WD. I tried pulling the fuse...to no avail. My question is does this sound like a bad switch? I'm trying to troubleshoot this on my own as opposed to taking it the dealer and paying $$$ for something I could fix on my own. It is the original switch (4WD hasn't been used since February 2007) and my TB has about 70K miles on it. Thanks for the help.

No, it will not go into 4WD, just stuck in 2WD. I tried putting it in 4hi and 4 lo...nothing happens...Thanks, Brad

First use a scan tool and look for any trouble codes. Brakes will not allow transfer case to shift. Check fuses. I think there are 3 fuses #5 for illumination, #15 for power and # 23. Then check the switch for power and ground. Another book says #s 2 trans. case ,4 guages,14 illim.,24 4 wheel drive. Check your owners manual for fuse numbers.

Thanks for the info taillight...I am not thinking to clearly. I forgot to check the fuses first. I replaced the switch this morning...that wasn't the problem. If the fuses are ok, what do you think I should try next? The dealer??? $$$

Thanks,

Brad
