Nice choice with the '70 model. However, I prefer the '69 397 Elco.

Here is my '70.
It currently has a 350 bored .040, M-21 4-Speed, 12-Bolt Posi w/ 3.31 gears. I have a 455 Olds motor I was gonna put in, but now i am leaning towards an LS1 - 6-Speed swap, with Twin Turbos.

Gotta be the early Chevelles!

1964 & 1965 are my favorites.

My 1964 Elky Delux -
700R4 vette tranny,
GM 350 engine (soon to be a nice 383 in the works...),
rebuilt front end with polyurethane all around,
1971 Monte Carlo 11" front discs (short spindle swap),
1 1/4" rear sway bar,
15x7" Eagle aluminum rims.

Cheers to all you Elky owners - we'll see you around!

Well, for my favorite, I would have to say 1959. It was WAAY out there when it was introduced and is still way out there. Most people either love it or hate it, there is very little in between.

In stock trim, the 1959 is still cool, but lacks the reflection of the hot rod era of the early 60s. It takes a little modification to really bring out the agressive look of the '59. Having made a few class a rods through the years, my 1959 had its time to be upgraded. Now it looks like it should have from the factory. Low. Just an opinion, of course. The pics of my car should still be posted in the 1959 Elky Thread. I have seen '59s in several different colors, but it just doesn't look as good as red to me.

I have seen a few really sharp looking '60 Elky's, but my vote usually still goes with '59.

In stock trim, my favorite would have to be the 1970 Elky SS 454 LS-6, but my LS-3 will do for my taste. I love the black with the white "skunk" stripes. The pics of this car are in the 1970 Elky Thread.

Always been partial to the 72-78 Elky's but I own an 83 SS Elky. No mods as of yet since I just bought it from a guy for $150..Body needs a lil bit of work on the passanger door...but engine is good - Needs a crank shaft.. All original rims too.

I have to say the 1970. I love the 1970 Chevelle just as much as the 1970 El Camino.

Typhoon is sick, I would rev on anybody I see and then look at them in my rear view, how much do those things cost now, if you can find them?

i would say the 59-60 is my fav. this is when the x-frame impala still did the el-co sweet. plus the room for the big block helps

i saw on a post, someone asking if the el co might return? at sema this year, they had an impala the was cut to look like a el camino and it looked pretty good, but it a front driver. gm did bring the holden over to test around LA and the press loved it. it is a real nice piece, plus rear drive its called the ute and can be seen at www.holden.com.au lutz has said he likes it and he is bringing a holden over for the gto.

First choice: 70
Second choice: 66-67
Third choice: (and some laugh at me for this) but the last generation 80s elkys were nice. I like the boxy look and love A/G bodies from the 80s. I also preferred the quad headlights. I had an 85 and LOVED it. I had to ditch the 200C tranny when it died and I had plans to 'cage it and put a hemi in it just to pi$$ of some folks :)

By the way... new elky has been in the rumor mill for six or seven years. Check out GMs Holden website in Australia. The Ute as its called is based loosely on the Monaro and uses the LS1/T56. I like it, but its a little small compared to the Elkys we're used to. Chevy keeps modifying current malibus and monte carlos to bring to shows to see how customers react; if its worthwhile to consider bringing the Ute overseas.

Nice to see such a varied opinion on everyones favorite year(s).
I like 1959, 1968-72, 1985-87, and of course 1971-72 GMC Sprint. The rarest of the rare...a 1971 GMC Sprint with the 454 option, cowl induction w/4 speed and SP package. Mine is a 350 darn it! These are my favorites. HOW ABOUT YOU???

I think the fact that it's probably the size of the "80's" Elkys or smaller isn't such a bad thing really. It improves the power to weight ration. Yeah!!! sounds good to me. Smok 'em if you got 'em! :evillol:

Oh man, tough choice, they are all cool. My ultimate favorite El Camino has to be the 1972 SS, at least a 350 small block. My dad had one that I'll never forget when I was just a little girl. One heck of truck. :) My other favorite years would have to be 1959 El C, first year they made 'em, and to find a nicer one, I just want to drool when I see a perfectly restored 59 ride by. :D Then as far as another one I'd own, I have to say I like the 1982's just for the fact it's my birth year. So I guess, my number one is 1972, then 1959, and 1982, but I like the Generation 3 the best of all, 1966 to 1972 body styles and trucks. I like Chevelle's too. My fave Chevelle, a 1968. then 1972. The 1970's are nice on them too. BUT I'm a Cami girl first. :)

Hello
I just bought a 68 El camino my first one.. And I'm excited about it. I have small spotsof rust in the rear window and in the lower parts of the fenders. Is this common? I am the third owner and the second owner owned it from 1984 till now its been in California all its life and been sitting since 1997. Let me know what I have to do to get it road worthy please.

Thanks,
K Man

yeah, under the rear window and along the rear of the frame are the most popular parts to get nice and rusty.
