Wierd problem with 99 accordunouwntme 08-09-2007, 11:10 PM Hey, If anyone can help that would be much appreciated. The other day i got in my car turned the key, and i swear i heard a faint pop noise. When I turned on my car the battery light, seatbelt light, parking brake light, all of the lights for the doors and trunk were on and none of them would turn off. I also think that since the pop my a/c isnt as cold either because normally I never had a complaint about the a/c, ice cold, but now it is on for a while and it doesnt get nearly as cold. I have turned on the car and drove a few times since this happened and all the lights are still on. If anyone has heard about or seen this before please let me know. Any help is appreciated. BIAR 08-10-2007, 12:12 AM I have not heard of that. But your car does have a recall for an ignition switch. It is no charge(free).I would start with that and see what happens. somick 08-10-2007, 01:51 PM There is a recall for the ignition switch. On some vehicles you are able to pull your key out while it is in the ON position. As far as I know it has nothing to do with charging system. I mentioned CHARGING SYSTEM because that what it sounds to me. Have it tested at the automotive store for free. What mileage do you have on your Accord. If mileage is relatively low it may be your battery that does not hold the charge. Good luck, Sam P.S. For starters verify that all your connections to the battery and ground are good. unouwntme 08-11-2007, 05:16 PM Thank you for the replies. But now of course the problem has got worse. I was driving to the store and started accelerating from a stop sign and the car had a problem switching from 1st to 2nd(automatic). I got the transsmission rebuilt at 108000 miles it currently has 142000. I tried putting it in second and the car would roll but the rpm's would just rev up if i gave it any gas. Then if I touched the brake all of the cars power would dim and the radio would turn off. I pulled over to the side of the road, popped the hood and did notice corrosion or battery acid or whatever that stuff is on the pos and neg terminals. After a minute or two the car just died and turned off. When I got back in and put the keys to the accessory position everything turned on and the windows worked but when i went to turn the car on it didnt make a clicking noise or anything. So now my car is parked on the side of the road. If this sounds familiar to anyone please help. I have changed the battery in the past 30-40000 miles. Any help is appreciated. jeffcoslacker 08-11-2007, 07:50 PM Your alternator died... As it usues up the last voltage available, they can't even come up with enough amperage to operate the shift solenoids, and the tranny freaks out...the engine will run as long as the coil has 9 volts or so to work with, but at that point any large current draw (like lighting the brake lights or something) will pull it down enough to kill the motor. It won't have enough power left in the battery to fully engage the starter solenoid, and just click when you try to crank it. The battery will rebound after sitting for a few hours, the car may start, but will die again within a few blocks. Leaving jumper cables on and letting it charge off another car for 15-20 minutes will buy you 5-10 minutes or so of run time possibly, depending on the condition of the battery in it and the rate of discharge the alternator is creating. If you don't have a voltmeter to test charging voltage, you can turn everything on at idle (lights, radio, blower, rear defroster, wipers, etc)...if it falls on it's face and dies within a few seconds to a minute, there's a pretty good indication the alternator is shot...make sure everything electrical is shut off if you try to drive it home, that'll give you the longest run time. Japanese cars generally have a fuse for the charging system, check that first. Might have been the pop you heard. But if it blew the fuse, chances are there is a problem with the alternator/regulator anyway, it'll happen again... somick 08-11-2007, 07:54 PM Clean your battery terminals real good. Use a solution of baking soda and water. It may help. Check all possible grounds. There is a wire that goes from your negative battery post to the body of the car. Make sure it is not loose. I hope this will help! Good luck, Sam vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
